What to wear with red dress

Dietagainmonday · 28/01/2015 12:55

I have a knitted, bright red dress that I bought from the Next sale about two years ago, (cannot find online to link)
It is long sleeved, comes to about knee length. It is quite loose fitting.
I tried to wear it a couple of times but not sure which shoes/boots or colour tights.. Any advice appreciated as I would love to wear it but have no idea what with even after a look through google images.

In this weather, opaque black tights and knee high boots or ankle boots or even biker boots.

Brown would work with red as well. Or navy blue.
Is it a casual dress?

At this time of year I would definitely go for opaque tights, navy or black depending on the shade of red, and either pumps on my feet or biker boots, as hellsbellsmelons suggested.

Personally I would also probably wear a long string of pearls or similar with it...but I am a big accessories fan.

Grey tights / tan boots / leopard print scarf maybe?

Twinklestein · 28/01/2015 16:35

I would wear it with black opaques and black shoes/boots. I don't like red
with any shade of brown.

Zara bootees

Zara knee boots

I'm currently loving clashing red and pink but I'm not sure it works so well on grown ups.

Brown and red not a good look, black is the only way.

Red and brown works well together IMHO!

Pandsbear · 29/01/2015 09:31

Grey tights? I wear grey ribbed tights with my two red dresses at this time of the year.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/01/2015 19:18

I agree, Hells. It depends on the dress too - brown/tan boots nice for a casual look.

Twinklestein · 29/01/2015 20:55

I think those are good examples of red + brown not working hells.

The boots and the trousers are particularly grim.

hellsbellsmelons · 30/01/2015 10:21

Luckily we are all different and like different things.
The world would be dull otherwise.

aoife24 · 30/01/2015 14:32

I think grey tights wpuld go well too, red and black is a bit dull and obvious.

noddyholder · 30/01/2015 15:55

I love red and brown I am wearing it tonight! Grin

Babashka · 04/02/2015 14:01

If you don't mind looking like a robin, wear red and brown.

Hakluyt · 04/02/2015 14:04

Well, according to my late grandmother in law, "no knickers" Grin

Sorry- I just heard her voice when I saw the thread title.......

But that's like saying don't wear black and white unless you want to look like a zebra along with many other animal colours.
It's where we take a lot of our inspiration in matching colours, from nature!
