Please enlighten me...What are 'mum boots' ?

I have these concerns too! Marking my place for the answer!

From earlier posts it seems like 'Chelsea' type boots (?) might be deemed mum boots, but I might be wrong, although I thought they were supposed be trendy???

They used to be black ankle boots worn with bootcut jeans. Now they're under the knee boots worn with skirts or skinny jeans. HTH.

I'm getting old and sooooo don't want to start looking frumpy!

oh the horror of it all, I am sitting here at work typing away on mumsnet on a report, wearing a skirt and boots ending just below the knee

And.......... I often wear skinny jeans with same type of boots (skulks away to hide in a wardrobe full of frumpy outfits)

It's all in the heel height.

flat boots: ok
small chunky heel: frumpy
high heeled boots: 80's throwback.

though I imagine there are people wish I was one of them who can pull anything off.

Oh ffs, now that I've lost enough weight to be able to get bloody knee boots over my cankles, they are Mum boots? Screw you, fashion, I like 'em, I'm wearing 'em.
