recommendations for well cut (mainly) dresses, need a major update

Most of my clothes are now looking shabby or I'm too old for them. I had a dress on the other day and I did think it was too short for me (I don't have the best legs!) and I realised I bought it before I got married (I'm 2 weeks shy of my 17th wedding anniversary!) I bought 3 dresses the same time and still have them! Shock

SO, given I have several dresses around 18 years old I don't think it's too extravagant to consider an update.

Most of my stuff I have in the past stuck to M&S with the occasional foray into Next.

So I don't want to look ancient and boring, I like the shape of a skater dress, so wide skirt, fitted waist, not low neckline, sleeves (say 1/2 or 3/4). Shapeless tunics things I don't think suit me. Like I said, my legs knee up are pretty chunky, so on the knee seems to flatter better. I don't like jeans and rarely wear them. I am 5'2" and about 60kg.

Any suggestions of a capsule wardrobe and good shops to shop at? I think I need to look a bit more my age (without looking like old person!Confused) and step away from the H&M and M&S.
