Agh! I don't wear dresses, I cant remember the last time I wore one but I have got a posh(ish) Ruby Wedding do and a Wedding to go to both in April and I have promised my Mum I would wear a dress. I don't have much money to spend so will need 1 dress that will do both occasions (different people at each so don't need to worry about that) I'm small of bust but large of hip and whilst I don't have a big tummy the little bit of tummy I have is on the flabby side and in no way suited to a clingy dress. I have no idea what to start I googled Wedding Reception Dresses and there were so many I think I need to narrow down my search a bit. Any idea of the style of dress I would be best searching for? Also is black at a Wedding not the done thing?

What's your budget?

tethersend · 17/01/2015 19:46

What size/colouring are you?

thenightsky · 17/01/2015 19:47

I'd go for a loose shift style. I never ever wore dresses but since finding out how forgiving and versatile the shift is, I wear them more than anything these days.

About £50 ish. I've got dark red/brown hair in a short (think boy style) cut. I'm probably about a 12. I normally wear size 10 tops and 12/14 bottoms.

That dress is pretty but very young
How old are you?
What kind of wedding?
What's your usual kind of style?

youbethemummylion · 17/01/2015 20:06

I'm 31 but I always get ID'd so I guess look a bit younger. I usually wear skinny jeans, converse and boyfriend style baggy jumpers or fitted t-shirts. The wedding is a registry office do then an evening reception in a restaurant no dancing etc involved as no room in the restaurant. I need to wear same dress to day time and evening do. The Ruby wedding do is Sunday Lunch in posh(ish) hotel.

I've googled shift dresses, they do look forgiving and something I could be comfortable in but are they a bit too casual.

something along the lines of this?

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:17

no to those hideous fancy dress type vintage ones

they are totally without taste

youbethemummylion · 17/01/2015 21:38

Ooh thenightsky I do like that one.

Meant to add, I'm a lumpy 14 but didn't feel fat at all!

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:51

that river island - a 14 with that cut away top? Are you sure?

tethersend · 17/01/2015 22:05

pink

Clueing4looks · 17/01/2015 22:12

Yes i'm sure! It's a lovely material, not clingy at all. Definitely going back to buy it on payday.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 17/01/2015 22:15

I was coming on to say are you really sure about a dress? Wouldn't a blouse and skirt make more sense if you never wear dresses and you are a different size on your bottom?

However I think the pink one tethersend has linked to is just perfect. Buy it!
