Trouser suit that's fit for a trip to the Palace

I have a lovely problem to have - I will be going to Buckingham Palace to see my husband awarded an honour :)

Trouble is, my mother in law will also be there and she is a Muslim so I can't have legs uncovered.

Dress code is "day dress" or "trouser suit", preferably with a hat / fascinator. I can get away with showing ankles but no more....

A google search of trouser suits has left me deeply uninspired. I don't mind spending a bit of money (up to £300 or so) but would prefer something I can wear again e.g. to work.

Any ideas? I am 42, size 12 and fairly pear shaped.

Have you tried Banana Republic? They do good stuff

Jaeger or Hobbs outlet?

Congrats to your hubby - I went with my mum when she got an mbeand wore a trouser suit from la redoute of all places.

All the other guests we talked to were amazed to go to the loo at the palace so my granny duly dragged me there so she too could say she had used the queens loo.Grin
