What shoes with tapered-leg trousers?

Bought a pair of tapered leg trousers yesterday. They're quite formal, relaxed fit but are fitted round the ankle. What shoes do I wear?

If they are not too long, high tops (leather dressier than Converse) or suede desert boots. If full length, loafers, brogues, or caged flats. Heels and slingbacks are an option too but I'm going for more unfussy footwear.
