45-ish where do you buy dresses?

I'm in a bit of a rut with clothes and want to wear more dresses.
I don't like Warehouse, Oasis and French Connection- dresses always too short- but find brands like Phase 8 and Kaliko a bit mumsy. Is that fair or am I missing out? I sometimes pick up the odd thing in Jigsaw and Mint Velvet.

Ideas? Ama an 8-10 and like dresses fitted to show off a waist but not occasion dresses as I am 'smart casual' mainly.

I like People Tree - reasonably priced, excellent quality and ethical to boot Wink

MyrnaLoy · 04/01/2015 20:17

Baukjen
The Outnet

I sometimes do ok in Topshop.

I often do well in independent, small boutiques carrying a range of labels (that's both online and on the high street).

Toast and Jaeger for me, especially some of the fitted plain dresses from Jaeger which you can dress up/down with chunky jewellery and belts etc

stoopstofolly · 04/01/2015 20:22

Second all of the above- however I also got THREE dresses from Kaliko in the sale recently. Never looked in Kaliko before- they weren't on my radar, but I'm very pleased with them. They look modern but not fashionvictimy (IYKWIM). Also very reasonable. Got mine from John Lewis.

slippermaiden · 04/01/2015 20:26

Baukjen, white company, jaeger and me + em mainly.

The odd one from Boden, but you have to kiss a lot of frogs.

drspouse · 04/01/2015 21:02

Also People Tree, Boden and Pepperberry.
I used to like Phase 8 but there wasn't much choice when I was heavier.

drspouse · 04/01/2015 21:04

Oh yes - also Johnnie B for teenage sizes in casual dresses. I'm a 10-12 and wear 15-16 or 16+

buzzy1 · 04/01/2015 21:43

Pied a terre dresses are flattering.

Saurus72 · 04/01/2015 21:45

Whistles, Jaeger, Jigsaw. Also try Cos and & Other Stories for the odd gem.

FraggleMountain · 04/01/2015 21:54

LK Bennett is great - good quality and proper skirt length. Bit pricey though Hmm

Next
Boden
Zara
Mango

RojaGato · 05/01/2015 23:55

Wishbone
Baukjen
Petit Bateau
Mint Velvet
Monsoon Fusion sometimes has some surprises

I often buy clothes on holiday- Spain and Italy in particular seem to cater for ladies over 35 who don't want to look like they are mutton dressed as lamb but who also aren't ready to give up on life entirely yet. Two places I like when we go to Spain are El Ganso and Hakei. El Ganso has stores in London and does mail order here now.
