How would you wear this short-sleeved dress?

I like this dress from Hobbs but I'm not sure how to wear it in winter (and I doubt I would wear it in summer as it's made of wool).

The only options I can think of are:

(a) with a long-sleeved top underneath which might look a bit juvenile

(b) with a cardigan or jacket which might cut the line of the dress in an unflattering way.

Are there any other options?

With a coat for outside, and just only wear it when you know you will be inadequately-heated buildings?

I think it would be fine with a plain, very fine top underneath it, or with a cardigan over it, providing it was fairly neat-fitting. Or (my usual go-to) stick a biker jacket over it?

I would put a crisp white shirt underneath it. I've seen that dress in the shops and it's lovely

If you can get into a hobbs store, the staff are great at suggesting things to go with it and will bring you various things into the changing room to try on. The only problem is you might end up spending quite a bit more.

£109 for a plain blue day dress!! Wowzers!

Oh and I would just wear it with black tights and somewhere indoors where your arms won't be cold

Two ways to wear a cardigan over this without spoiling the line- cardigan over the shoulders, or possibly a tie cardigan tied at an empire line level could work.

I'd also look at something like long wristwarmers or a thermal petticoat/cami underneath.

Or a cami or this in french navy, black, cobalt or wedgewood.

Another thing I would consider would be a shawl, perhaps a lacy loose knit, tied round your shoulders, maybe fichu style.

If you want to app up the tailored angle, a bolero jacket of some kind could work too. The options I gave above are all softening rather than sharp. A bolero jacket could be pretty Mad Men, especially with an updo and some kitten heels.
