New York shopping - where shall I go?

Help please! I'm in New York and I have a full day on my own to go shopping while DH is at the football. Where's the best place to go for high street style shopping? Is there even one? We are staying v close to Macy's and he wants to go there this evening (hoping to find an xmas present for his dad) so I can save that for later. Planning to go to Bloomingdales first and then hopefully to some less designery, more high street style stores! Any recommendations of which area/street to aim for?

Take the subway down to the world trade centre and century 21 is your best friend, numerous floors of coats, shoes, bags, homewares, kids stuff. I practically live there whenever i go to New York.

Agreed! Century 21 is amazing. For high street stores I would walk along 34th street and look out for Gap, Victoria's Secret, Banana Republic, Forever 21, Zara and H&M (may need to walk up 5th avenue for some of these), ut you can get most of those at home. Go to Century 21 instead - it's mostly designer stuff heavily discounted. Also, if you like beauty and make up, you'll be able to spend hours in Duane Reade!
