Do you dress up for Xmas day?

What sort of thing do you wear?

I'm just being nosy really. I did growing up as we usually went to church then visited relatives for huge extended family dinner which was always a bloody nightmare

As adults it depends who we're with / where we are but I tend to dress up less as it's more an immediate family thing than a party. I won't be a complete slob, but tend to go for e.g. smart jeans and a nice cashmere sweater or wool / stretchy day dress with thick tights. Basically smart enough if I'm dragged to going to church but comfy enough for a pre-dinner walk / slobbing in front of post-dinner TV.

I have a newborn so not really into dressing up this year but I have a nice poncho and pretty earrings and will make an effort for church (i Have a new pair of ankle boots ) but I think I will dress up Christmas Eve night in a black dress

Normally I wear a bit of sparkle- such as a black jumper and treat myself to a new coat

Yes! Not the full cocktail dress but so I am smarter with more make up and generally looking like a better version of normal. We put effort into the food, decorations and presents. I want myself and everyone else present to look nice. Showing respect for a loved family occasion. We all live spread over the world and make the effort to come back at least for this once. It is important that all aspects are seen to if yswim.

Yes. Nice dress, heels, the works. The whole family dresses up and I really look forward to planning my outfit.

I do tend to do make up / nails / jewellery, which I don't always bother with about the house - I suppose like purple says 'a better version of normal'.

Part of the change is PIL who would probably look askance at me if I pitched up in a suit or more 'going out' type outfit

Yes, we have 50 plus family coming from all over the world, everyone is nicely but comfortably dressed. They start arriving from breakfast onwards. I never host as our place is too small, but always travel. Sometimes we hire a country house and stay for a few days. Much food, drink and hilarity ensues. We don't do stockings, but pile of presents is ready and waiting!

No, I wear my comfy trackies yoga pants and a christmas jumper and slippers. I always wear make up etc. I like to be comfy lounging about.

Sweater dress with woolly tights and ankle boots

Definitely. It's always a big family occasion (at ours this year) and I couldn't imagine having people for lunch if I was dressed in my trackies or a onesie.

A bit of sparkle. Nothing too constricted or tight, though.

Yes , always get dressed up , this year - either nice blouse with chunky jewelled necklace or playsuit with same necklace , cable tights and ankle boots .
Full face of make up and lippy as per the norm.
Dress kids up nicely too in co- ordinated 'Sunday Best' outfits
My DP on the other hand is a different kettle of fish, he would be content going visiting in t shirt and trackies

I think I get this from when I was a child , on Xmas we either went visiting and had a new party dress to wear or if we had Xmas at home we had to go up and change into our new clothes. Marked the day as a special day

a bit. in previous years have worn sequin tee + skinnies, sparkly jumper + skinnies, 'hitch' dress with opaques, jumper dress etc.

this year I might wear sequin skirt and jumper, not sure yet.

I am 28 weeks pregnant and will most definitive wearing stretchy leggings and a festive jumper. Ds (18 months) will be in his jeans and a festive jumper. DP will no doubt be wearing what he wears every day - jeans and a black/navy t shirt! My mum likes wearing something a bit smart, and my dad will probably wear his smart jeans and M&S jumper, my gran and her sister will no doubt be wearing what they wear every day.

I have never dressed up, didn't realise it was a thing so was a bit shocked the first time i went to the inlaws. This year I will wear jeans and a Christmas jumper.
