Embracing my curls after 20+ years. (Self concious selfie alert)

What do you think? I love them. After 20 frustrating years of trying to tame them I went looking for a stylist who knows what to do with curls and this is the result . I just need to learn how to pluck my eyebrows and drape a scarf properly now.
If there are any other curlyvipers in the NE then Jo at Mojo on Heaton Road in Newcastle comes highly recommended!

Lovely! I've just started to let my curls do what they want to do. It is a lot easier. A really good cut makes a bit difference.

That cut is exactly what I need, my hair is a hopeless curly frizzy mess when left to its own devices. My latest wonder lotion, Redkens Curvaceous ringlet cream, did zilch to change this. I was only watching Alex Polizzi t'other night and thinking how nice it would be to have a shorter cut.

Maples, Hazel at belli capelli in Egham, Surrey, is excellent. No idea if that would work for you location wise, but it's an hour's drive for me and completely worth it. Hazel is lovely and has curly hair herself, and the price is reasonable and the salon small and friendly (and I'm one of those people who usually finds salon visits excruciatingly awkward).

Sorry I went missing for a while, seconds after I clicked 'post' DH came home and announced that the cylinder head gasket has gone on his car and it's 2 months out of warranty, so I've been trying to cheer him up, then I had do do the cub/scout run. But it's been lovely to get back and read all these nice comments.
Isn't she a lovely women notona? I'm so chuffed that I've finally found a hairdresser who is genuinely friendly and a great cutter, she's definitely worth the drive up from Durham.
When she started putting mousse on my hair I must have looked like this> because she burst out laughing and explained that hair mousse has moved on a bit since I last used it circa 1988. And it has, my hair is really soft but the curls have lovely definition without being crispy.
Sorry for gushing on but it's been a bit of a revelation!

I recommend these, particularly the gel they sometimes have small sample size ones to try

Oh, yes, if anyone has advice on styling products, let us have them. I use a bit of the light Moroccan Oil. I find mousse makes my hair stiff and crunchy. What kind of mousse did your hairdresser recommend, CurlyViper?

Ahh the Milkshake stuff, she puts that on me too. Yeh Jo's lovely and I don't mind that not everything is CG friendly as it's a one off, the ouidad shampoo is good for taking it all off.

I'm made up too that her hair dye is low ppd so I'm not allergic so I means she can do my roots and in between I use naturtint from H&b just on my roots

MmeLindor the mousse is one that I've never heard of before today, it's called Lisap Sculture Strong Mousse.
That Ouidad set you linked to cost the same as my haircut + can of mousse Notona! If I get some cash for Christmas I'll treat myself though, thanks for the recommendation.

Mine is neither straight nor curly, just a bit wavy. I talked to my hairdresser about having a proper perm, but for various reasons she doesn't think it would work.

yy to curls! One here who has spent years and £££ on blow-drying straight. Then on hols one day just washed and left load of conditioner in to dry - and... I have unexpectedly curls, not the frizz I was expecting. Pleasingly ( but also irritatingly) getting lots of compliments about hair, and how much younger I look.. Could've saved a fortune and looked better...
Just wash, and leave a load of conditioner in. Takes ages to dry, but dries curly, and takes years off.. ( If only I'd had this hair, which I actually did have but didn't know it) in my 20s...

I have natural curly hair too and hated it when I was younger. I embraced it for short periods during my late 20's but got a pixie cut a few years back so lost my curls.
I've been growing it out since August and it's just at the length now that I can scrunch it a bit - I look like a sheep though and don't like it :(

Your hair looks great! I'm also a recent curl embracer - struggling a bit more with it thsn you are but thinking that going shorter might be the way forward. I like boots pink curl cream too, but also enjoying experimenting. Label m souffle arrived today, will try tomorrow!
