Century 21 just opposite Ground Zero. Make sure you have a couple of hours and don't go on a saturday.
Also Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, and Williams Sonoma for home stuff.
Victoria's Secret for fantastic underwear.

crate and barrel is pants - we have much much much better interior stores than that here! don't bother! sorry turquoise!

swedishmum · 11/10/2006 22:42

Can you still get the 15% off discount card at Macy's? We picked one up from customer services (mezzanine level on 1st floor). It's for tourists.

TheBlonde · 11/10/2006 23:04

swedish mum - was it a discount or one of those sales tax back things?

OP posts:
swedishmum · 11/10/2006 23:45

It was a card - credit card sized. All I had to do was go to customer services and pick one up then show it every time I made a purchase. A friend told me about it. It's worth asking at least. I thought the kids'dept was much better last time I visited and staff were really friendly. I'm jealous - I absolutely love NY. Have lots of fun.

QueenPeaHead · 12/10/2006 00:12

I'm going next week!
hurrah hurrah hurrah

must go to williams sonoma at columbus circle (world's best kitchenware shop, more exciting than it sounds...)

another vote for bloomingdales, I like the one in SoHo

QueenPeaHead · 12/10/2006 00:12

macy's is a shithole

barneys rocks

jabberwocky · 12/10/2006 02:45

Pearl River Market in Chinatown

Earlybird · 12/10/2006 06:17

Haven't been in a long time (and a chain, so stores all over US), but I used to love Banana Republic.

Agree that Macy's isn't so wonderful, and as PPH says, Barney's is good. I also rate Bergdorf Goodman if you want a truly upscale department store experience.

tonton · 12/10/2006 10:01

I'm also gping next week!! It's fotr a meeting so will probably only have 5 minutes to shop but i have already made a plan of action. Going to Barney's Coop which stocks the (slightly) cheaper brands. Will get some jeans if nothing else....and converse.

womblingalong · 12/10/2006 10:17

Oh The Blonde, you beat me to it, I am going for thanksgiving too, and was going to post the same question! Never been, also need info on how close together these shops are. Am taking 2yr old, so shoping time will be severely limited, need to be as efficent as poss. So am looking forward to seeing all your responses.

When are you flying out? I bet you can't wait! Have fun.

Wombling

TheBlonde · 12/10/2006 10:19

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 12/10/2006 11:43

If you are buying a gift for any teens this place is the epitome of cool. My dss(17) was seriously impressed with his t-shirts, particularly the one with the logo

geordiemacminx · 12/10/2006 16:53

My aunt just came back from NYC, she went to an outlet village about 1/2 an hour from the city which she said was absolutely amazing - most hotels offer trips to it or details on buses. Apparently MAC mascara was £7 there as opposed to £30 in selfridges, plus it had every shop you could ever imagine!!!

ThomBat · 12/10/2006 20:37

Oh and Aveda stuff is much cheaper out there.
