Then which one piece of jewellery would I wear on my hands?

A simple gold wedding band (assuming you're married!).

A well cut, well fitting black, woollen trouser suit with low heels and with top appropriate to occasion (shirt if you're in the dock, camisole top if evening work do, round neck or collar if interview, silk blouse if funeral etc etc).

There's no occasion in mind as such, more a general need to up my game

I would go with one simple ring and a nice dainty watch. Not sure of occasion but I always think women who wear dresses look more elegant. Maybe a knee length wrap dress with heels?

I'd go with a tailored dress in a colour like navy, with good quality shoes or boots, long straight tailored coat

Wedding band if your married OR
3 or 4 very thin (1mm) stacking rings in your favourite metal, silver or gold or rose gold (or a mix of all or 2 of these) worn on one finger (see etsy)
Of course your hands/nails will be cared for.....

Outfit? - it's got to fit perfectly, it's got to be in colours that suit you, it should flatter you, it should be simple not frou frou. Accessorised but not over accessorised. All of this applies to any outfit worn for any occasion.
Bag of a proportion suitable to your build, clean. Shoes clean and heeled.

Don't;
leave price stickers on soles of shoes.
Leave the wash labels on scarves.

Clothes which fit well, and are clean, ironed, not bobbled or pulled.

Shiny hair.

Go easy on the foundation etc. it's easy to look a bit 'caked' and overdone.

Only wear an outfit of 2 or 3 different colours.

Don't always go for black tights. Grey can look lovely.

Short flippy skirts and high pumps with a slim heel do not look good (IMO), neither do bootleg or wide legged trousers. These all need to be worn with shoes or boots with a chunkier heel to add balance.

Oh, and trousers have to be the right length, not too short or too long.
