Why do lipsticks look so brown on me?

Bought a lovely dark purpley colour the other day and it's looks so much browner than it does on others (from what I can see online)

I've had the same with a pinky colour from Bobbi brown.

What am I doing wrong?! I'm fair but a bit pink, with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

I think it could be the colour of your lips preventing the true colour of the lipstick to comw through. Have you tried using a pencil lipliner all over your lips before using lipstick. People also use a light layer if foundation or concealor on their lips before lipstick. Or it could be that the lipsticks are too sheer and you need a more opaque formula.
