Hi-ligths have gone apricot around my hairline

So had hair cut and coloured yesterday. I am naturally dark blonde and have a full head of hi-lights. Have had them done for the past 20 years.

Second time with this particular hairdresser. When she was shampooing she then said she was going to put toner on. Now I've never had to have toner before and my vague understanding was when they put toner on then generally it means things have gone a bit wrong.

Anyway, it clearly had as all around my hairline it is very ginger. I pointed this out and the hairdresser reckons it is because the toner was on too long and it will fade by monday after a few washes.

Well have washed twice since then and it is still very ginger. They have said they will fix if I'm not happy so am going to book back in but I am very wary of having the same person again and also what made it go ginger?

So annoyed as it was pretty expensive and now looks crap - in fact I reckon I could have done a similar job with a bottle of sun-in.

Oh I meant hi-lights of course. Or is it high-lights?

Toner doesn't always mean it's gone wrong, it depends how the highlights have been done. If they've just been lifted with bleach then it's not unusual for them to have a yellow or ginger tone and the toner just changes the shade but not the darkness IYSWIM? I have very dark hair and that's often how they are done on me - bleach on foils, rinse, look orange, apply toner, suddenly have caramel, or copper, or whatever we were after! But, you shouldn't be ginger now and I would go back and ask for it to be fixed. If you are only a natural dark blonde then it shouldn't be that hard to lift your hair past the ginger stage - I'm wondering if she didn't bleach for long enough? If you were looking ginger I'd have expected her to use a cool toned toner too.

What a pain in the arse having to go back and do it again. Sounds like she definitely buggered it up, highlights (?) should have been straight forward given that you're naturally a dark blonde so I don't blame you for being wary of letting her fix it.

Any chance you could request someone else?

Am going to speak to the manager tomorrow but say I want someone else to fix it. Looking at it again its not just that it is ginger but just the rest of the colour is awful.

And yes am really fed up that will have to spend hours getting it fixed.

Are you blonde with grey coming through.
Some people who are going grey get hilights but also get a masking colour on the top and sides so root regrowth doesn't show so much. But the fact you are naturally dark blonde makes that unlikely.

I do have some grey coming through but have had that for the last 5 or so years and never had that problem before.

Hopefully will all be sorted on tuesday or will ask for refund and go back to old hairdresser who did do very good colour. I think I must be fussy as prefer colourist in one salon but cutter in another - perhaps I just need to go to different places for different things?

Do you think she put 'masking' in ?

No I don't think she did. They weren't on that long though - only about 30 mins - wonder if they just didn't take properly.
