Race Day Hat/Hair Dilemma

I'm going to the Hennessy gold cup next weekend. Already have my dress and shoes sorted (cream and black spotty dress with bracelet sleeves). But what do I do with my hair? We have a private box (works do) so I won't be put in the open and do a hat seems a bit much. I don't want to wear a fascinator as all the ones I've seen look tacky but what else could I do to dress my hair up?

have you got long hair? If it's long enough for a messy up do, perhaps put a few jewelled pins / clips in it to jazz it up? I like the "plate on an Alice band" type "hatinators" - very KMid, comfy and won't give you hat hair. I think you might be surprised how many hats / fascinators people will wear even if you are in a box

Since it's National Hunt and the winter, fascinators (don't think they're great either) aren't really the right thing to wear. Most NH folk, even smarter ones, will be wearing tweed or dark colours and maybe a trilby or similar, but it's not summer flat racing, so more casual is appropriate.

If you're going to be going in the paddock, it may be muddy so remember not to wear thin heels (was very soft in the Cheltenham paddock last week). Newbury is traditionally quite a conservative crowd too.

Oh, and lastly, have a fabulous time. It should be a wonderful day of racing and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.
