Is this dress too short for me? opinions appreciated!

hi guys,

I bought a dress a while ago & the last time I wore it, a stranger called me a whore, she was pretty aggressive about it, the bar staff had to come over and tell her to shush. I'm fine with that now, I don't get my self worth from how demure and pure other people think I am and she was probably just having a bad day.

But I've had a look at it and I do wonder if it actually looks good as it should or if it just looks like a long t shirt. I sometimes see people wearing dresses and think, it would look great if it was just a bit longer- thinking in terms of proportions if you get what I mean....

If I didn't enjoy putting together outfits that look nice, I would go out with it looking silly by the way, it really is just for me I'm asking.

so if I post a picture or two could you possibly tell me what you think? I don't know if this is all horribly self obsessed or just not 'done' so will hold off until someone tells me it's okay

(my friends are not honest enough and my mum, who's my go to 'AIBU person', thinks anything above knee length is asking for it!)

I wouldn't think anything of it if I saw you out. It is a nice dress and suits you.

It isn't so much that it is too short but it does look like a long t-shirt. Maybe wear a belt to make it look more like a dress. You have fab legs btw!

In the first picture it does look like an oversized t shirt and I personally think it doesn't look great.

I think it looks better with the tights.

May be you could wear a statement necklace and boots with it? I think it looks fab on you, it just needs something to liven it up a bit. That woman was obviously deranged.

I was expecting something much shorter. The length looks fine to me but its better with the tights on account of it being shorter in the middle. I wonder if it rode up while you were sitting in the bar and left your pants on display.

It is very short but I think it looks great with tights, or perhaps even leggings?

Woman in Club sounds jealous. I do think in the first pic it does look a bit like a beach cover up (I have similar) but with skinnies/ wet look leggings it looks great. Go for it!

The dress is great but I agree with some others a bit shapeless and it does look trashy with bare legs...

over leggings etc (skinnies) it's better.

Absolutely fine. If it didn't cover you up top it would be 'trashy' but regardless you can wear whatever you like no one should be calling you something like that.

on a separate point, I did see a woman yesterday in a short dress (nice, striped but certainly quite short and sort of flared) anyway she had a rucksack and this can sort of pull the dress, I kept thinking if she trips, bends over the dress will ride right up to reveal her knickers.....

she had bare legs too but even with nude tights you have to be really careful so you don't show everyone an unintended flash view.

Couldn't see that as trashy as it has the high neck, long sleeves etc. Looks better with the tights/ leggings though.

I think it looks cute and you have a lovely figure. I think you could wear it with bare legs as long as you had some hot pants/modesty shorts on underneath.

You have a great figure. It is short and looks like a nightshirt with no tights. Is it too short for during the day with tights....personally, yes i think it is because if you bend all will be on show. Is it too short for a night out..no..plenty other people wear that kind of length. Did she have any right to say what she did to you..absolutely no way. I agree, totally jealous of your lovely figure and legs. The bottom line is, if you are comfortable in that length then wear it. Personally it would make me uncomfortable to wear it but i am 47 and feel too old to pull that look off.
