Ankle boots with skirts/dresses/leggings...yay or nay

Have recently seen quite a few people wearing short boots - like this boots with dresses and skirts/leggings...I always thought they were for trousers/jeans. Is this a thing now?
Though, Im secretly hoping it is...my short boots are way comfier than my knee boots....

I think ankle boots look more current than long ones. Unless your long ones are over the knee that is.
