I am apple shaped. Not massively overweight, but certainly got a bit of a tummy going on. I have nice legs but quite wide shoulders and a touch of the dinner-lady arms. I have no idea about what clothes suit an apple-shape. Oh please help me, I am fed up wearing clothes that make me look like shit. I am already destined to suffer from heart disease and diabetes by simply being apple-shaped, apparently, but I would like to look better before that happens....

ok, you sound like me

here is my only advice

Dark V necked tops are your friend and you can get them quite cheaply in marks

I think also wide legged trousers to balance the arms. But then I have horrible stumpy legs.

Make the most of your legs - slim bootcut or straight(not skinny)trousers or jeans.high boots - ankle or long. Longish tops that never show the midriff.Layer your tops. Never wear cap sleeves.

Are you tall? Petite?

What are your best features then?

Peggotty · 04/10/2006 20:53

Yes, liking the wide trousers idea, and layered tops. I've heard high waisted trousers/jeans etc area good if you've got a wobbly tummy?

I am 5ft7, so not massively tall, but can carry a bit of extra weight and look ok. People often quite surprised when I say what weight I am (thank god)

High waisted trousers/jeans make your ar*e look massive - avoid! Instead wear lower-waited trousers and choose longer-length tops that skim over your stomach rather than clinging to it: layers are good for this.
