My wardrobe needs a new coat but I'm jist not sure what coat

There's a gap for something neutral in colour which will tone with burgundy/wine, teal, grey. I have a brown Barbour which is not warm, an Aigle which is wonderfully warm but the colour is a bit restrictive, a darker olive Ralph Lauren puffa - finishes at the low waist but too similar in tone to the Aigle and an ancient black wool above the knee coat.

The new addition needs to be smart, functional but not outdoorsy necessarily and warm. Not knee length but bum covering would be good. Will mostly wear with jeans, cords, maybe even above the knee skirts depending on the length. It might or might not have a hood - handy but not essential. It might be navy or a.n.other colour ... But what?

Any ideas please?

Thanks!

I have been looking at the Barbour wrest coat- it comes in olive or navy. Pricy though but thinking it will last for years.

Prob too similar to your aigle

I just bought this from Next and I love it - warm, nicely cut - the central panel is very flattering - interesting details but neutral enough to go with just about everything. Handy pockets and it's warm too, especially when it's zipped all the way up.

May be a bit down-market for you if your other coats are Ralph Lauren etc but it's my first new winter coat for ten years and I'm very pleased with it Smile

Both lovely coats. Barbour is a bit too along the same lines as the Aigle. Next coat is gorgeous (not downmarket Confused) but actually too dressy as I really am jeans casual 99% of the time.

Keep the suggestions coming please ladies!

Possibly a bit too outdoorsy/not smart enough but the recent change in the weather is making me feel ALL THE LOVE for my North Face Arctic Parka - very warm, covers bum, has hood, actually looks kind of cool (I think) with skinny jeans etc.

Love that leedy - looks so warm but you're right, it's too much an outdoor coat.

I'm back to going through John Lewis' three thousand odd offerings! Needle and haystack spring to mind but it really can't be that difficult ..... can it?

Thanks Tethers. The Uniqlo coat is gorgeous and very reasonably priced too. I do need to update my wool coat which must be around 15 years old (eek) and that is tempting!

Maybe I'm after more of an anorak (hate that word) type jacket though not convinced a parka is what I want. I find myself drawn to styles like this but perhaps without a hood.

Need to do some more browsing Grin

I really like that Zara coat, especially in navy but I had a Zara padded coat once that I ended up returning because the down feathers started poking through the fabric. I'm never sure about the quality at Zara. Everything looks a bit cheap. I sort of want to like it though.
