nails have started peeling at the tips - what can I do?

My nails used to be really strong but recently a few of them have started to split and peel at the tips. I don't grow them long, in fact I prefer them very short and cut them twice a week as they grow like hell. I wear polish pretty much all the time but always with a basecoat.

Any advice?

Perhaps the nail polish and base coat is drying them out. Leave them bare for a couple of weeks and rub some oil into them every day.

I found I need some extra vitamins for a little bit as soon as I had those I think it was zinc and calcium I ended up needing problem cleared up

Thanks squoosh, will go polish free for a while and see how it goes. Tomany, I take a multivit every day, must check if there's any zinc in there

My nail condition is very influenced by my hormones, and they have been rubbish since I hit the menopause.

I've found they improve massively if I rub coconut oil into them every night. It completely stops the splitting and flaking, although I also need to trim them regularly.

The biggest thing I think is always wearing rubber gloves when washing up or cleaning.

OneHandFlapping · 31/10/2014 21:26

DD and I both had this when we started using Esse millionnails (oh the irony !). We both had to trim our nails to the quick, and wait for them to regrow - and binned the millionnails.

I have terrible issues with this and nothing worked AT ALL, not oil, not perfectil, nothing until I discovered silicea capsules. These were dramatic for me, had an almost instant impact, nails noticeably stronger, longer than they've been for years and peeling halted.

Long nails are so novel for me that I'm still charmed by the sound of my nails of the keyboard!

Ah the other thing that worked for me was pregnancy Grin

CointreauVersial · 31/10/2014 22:32

Oh yes, pregnancy. Long, lush nails and fabulous hair. Alas, that's not really an option. Grin

Lottapianos · 31/10/2014 22:58

Pregnancy not an option, but thanks!

Mavala nail hardener or nail envy.
Massage cuticle oil in each day.
