London for the weekend - 20degrees for goodness sake!!

DH and I are visiting London from Yorkshire for Friday/Saturday and I had a lovely autumn wardrobe planned. But according to the weather forecast it could hit 20 degrees on Friday and at 50 I have my only little microclimate going on anyway, I don't need more heat.

So ladies of London, has everyone reverted to summer clothes again this week? I was planning long boots, lovely scarves etc. I'm now thinking crops and loafers. Or is there actually a chill in the air and I'll need autumnal clothes after all?

You need layers. I'll be cold in the morning and quickly get chilly again as the afternoon wears on.

It's a bit too warm for boots, but not quite warm enough for crops - you need light-winter clothes ideally (and layers as Lettuce says).

I'm wearing long jeans, a linen jumper/top and a lightweight winter coat with jeans and trainers cos I'm a scruff

piechuck · 28/10/2014 11:25

You might get away with a cardigan and no coat too

Stokey · 28/10/2014 11:32

It is quite warm - I don't think you need boots or scarf

I'm wearing a dress with 3/4 length sleeves, boucle jacket, opaques and ankle boots and am quite warm.

Jacket rather than coat, cardie, maybe short sleeves or shirt rather than long sleeves, flats or trainers rather than boots. Haven't seen anyone in crops but there are a few sock-less folk out there.

I've got a tights, dress, raincoat and acrylic pashmina ( I have a scarf practically year round for covering up/ sun protection.)

Def too hot for boots, you could do crops/ loafers with some socks in your bag, I did last week.

A couple of weekends ago we were in London and the weather was warm, I wore skinnies, little loafer type shoes that look like they are made of pony skin, smart top and a cropped leather jacket and a scarf.

mrsrhodgilbert · 28/10/2014 11:42

I can do skinnies, slightly turned up, lovely patent nude loafers from Hobbs and white shirt. I'm wondering about leather jacket, blazer or cardigan. You've talked me out of the boots. Maybe a scarf for evening, I love a scarf. Wondering about popping to M&S for a grey cashmere cardigan?

I was wearing a leather jacket and long-sleeved tee yesterday - I was pretty hot during the day but glad of it when it got dark ridiculously early.

Go for scarf and either blazer or leather jacket. It's probably a bit warm still for cashmere.

mowglik · 28/10/2014 12:03

i haven't been wearing my jacket at all, and sandals still some days! A warm long cardigan and scarf for the evening should do it

iwantgin · 28/10/2014 12:18

A timely thread! I am going to London from Yorkshire at the weekend as well :)

Planned to take a light jacket, umbrella(!) and lightweight jeans.

I think lighweight cardigans are great- as can be taken off and shoved in your bag if you get too warm. Along with a not too warm scarf for a little chill protection if sitting still.

MillyMollyMama · 28/10/2014 12:22

It is a bit chilly at night and in the mornings though if you are planning on walking anywhere. I think it is still Ok to not have a coat if you are staying centrally and not getting up very early. Weather forecasts can be wrong and I would not go without a coat of some sort.

mrsrhodgilbert · 28/10/2014 13:06

I'll take a blazer or leather jacket, both would look better with boots than loafers sadly.

Are the Christmas windows on show in the big stores yet? We are hoping to see the poppies and I'd like to go to borough market this time too.

I wore a light cardigan yesterday over top and skinnies in central London. Sweltering.

polyhymnia · 28/10/2014 14:11

Don't forget tube and department stores are always very hot anyway. Think your plans sound good now - but I'm not yet wearing my leather jacket as a bit warm for it.
