Would you complain about a rubbish mascara (Clinique via Boots)? What are my chances of getting an exchange?

Spent my points on a Clinique mascara at the weekend.

Sales assistant told me that they were doing a special promotion whereby for £2 more than the normal price I would get a gift set that included a full size mascara, eye serum and pencil so I said great.

I asked her twice if it was the same size of mascara and she said yes.

Got home and the mascara was NOT the same size 6ml instead of 7ml also the tube was slightly different but I didn't think to inspect it closely - was cross but thought oh well.

Anyway used it for the first time today and when it came to taking it off it was horrible, rather than sweeping it off with my eye makeup remover if sort of flaked off. Yuk all over my face.

I've thrown out the packaging and receipt but is there any point in complaining? Would they take me seriously? It's quite a way back to the store and I don't want to go if they'll say sorry not receipt no exchange.

Oh bad luck, I bought that too but I liked it, because I normally have the waterproof so I'm used to the oddness, I think that one's extended wear or something.

I don't think they'll do anything, sorry. It's 1ml less and a stay-put-all day type, yes, but without the reciept they'll probably just shrug. Worth complaining though, you might get some travel sized soap by way of an apology perhaps?

Sounds like you have a tubing mascara. They don't come off with makeup remover. Use hot water and gentle pressure. The mascara should slide off.

Hello. I would just take it back and explain the problem (as in it doesn't work for you) and ask for a swap. I would explain that I didn't keep the receipt, as it didn't occur to me there would be a problem, but that i paid by points so it could be traced that way. I would expect it to be swapped straight away and if it wasn't i would politely call clinique
I've got very sensitive eyes that randomly react and I have never had a problem getting an exchange at a high end counter. Btw i do make sure I'm dressed well and i ask politely but firmly for what I want.
Good luck
Katy
