Dh has been using a bag like this for work: m.sportsdirect.com/mt/www.sportsdirect.com/puma-fund-sports-bag-707016?colcode=70701622&un_jtt_v_un_PDP=yes&un_jtt_v_un_info=&un_jtt_v_un_pers=&un_jtt_redirect
It's the perfect size and shape but looks awful: he wears a smart suit, shiny shoes etc then carts this thing around with him.
He takes a load of files, aforementioned shiny shoes, large rectangular lunch box and often his gym kit into work so his bag needs to be big enough for that, be able to store his paperwork upright, fairly comfortable to carry (he walks 3 miles to work) and strong enough that the straps don't fray after a week (happened every time so far Confused
Please tell me such an item exists and please tell me where I can buy one... Don't want to spend an absolute fortune but open to all suggestions. TIA Smile

Glenalmond make some handsome holdall, fishing and messenger bag styles in Harris tweeds which might be worth a look. Very robust but quite expensive, so perhaps for Christmas!

the only really comfortable thing to carry is a backpack...(especialy with that amount of stuff). The swiss brand and tagus (??) are very hard wearing... but there are some cheaper options
this house of fraser one looks good
here is the swiss version
For non backpack option...the comfiest thing over is a portabrace... we used to use them when filming and they have massively padded straps. Seem to remember they were pretty expensive though...see here

m&s have some good-looking holdalls for men for men, BUT more expensive than I'd have imagined

Thanks all, I do like some of those links. I'll show dh later and maybe order him an early Christmas pressie Smile

I have exactly the same issue! Will take a look at the links already posted. I've seen some nice messenger-style bags in Debenhams that might be worth a go. Also, if you're in London, there was a stall at Spitalfields market that had gorgeous leather messenger bags.

Try knomo?

Amethyst24 · 22/10/2014 11:22

PS - if he walks to work can he do so in his gym shoes and leave the shiny ones in the office? One less thing to cart around!

NeatFreak · 22/10/2014 13:07

I hadn't thoight about why he doesn't leave his shiny shoes at work but that's genius! Sometimes he leaves early for a meeting or to travel somewhere direct from home so maybe that's why...

get him another pair of shoes. Really - way more reasonable than carrying them around every day.

If you fancy spending £450 on a nylon bag ...

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/10/2014 14:12

This bag is the absolute business. Really robust, properly waterproof on the seams but also comes with a free reflective cover if it is dumping down. DH has used one daily for a bike commute for 2 yrs and it shows no sign of wear. It's really neat and tidy but expands a lot [still looking sleek], looks smart with a suit but is totally practical with a chest strap, subtle reflective spots in the fabric, and has a padded sleeve/section for a laptop. Loads of little pockets everywhere so everything has a place too.

Ignore all the pink in the photos. It comes in black and silver or black and pink. In both cases the silver and the pink are reflective.

My dh is bag obsessed. Honestly, it's ridiculous. He bought a leather/poly backpack from Mandarina Duck last year on holiday and loves it, as its very smart, holds his laptop, but is comfy to carry. Typically it's not on their website, though this isn't too dissimilar.
