Customs charges with order from Anthropologie US site

Lusting after couple of things that are only available on the US site but nervous of being clobbered by customs. Does anyone have any experience of shopping from the US site and how the sizing compares. TIA

They have anthropologie here in the UK.

I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE and only buy anthro; however their customer service here is really bad and the staff have no clue about the products they stock.

Thanks for your reply hydeparkhottie. I know they do, and have bought from it before but this particular thing is available in a different colour on the US site and not here, and I'm miles from a store (on Welsh borders)

Never shopped with them but do buy stuff from America a bit.

I've bought stuff from amazon America and never got custom charges. Then I bought a chinchilla wheel from a US pet store and got a £30 customs charge! I think its hit and miss whether you get charged and ime I've not been charged more than I have been charged but the custome charging seems to be getting more frequent now, not sure if they've tightened up or if I had a run of luck at first.

Thanks Viva. Hmm, tricky one. I need to give some thought!

Potential charges listed here:

www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm

Parcel may get spotted/may not - its a risk you take.

See if they use borderfree.

It calculates the duty for you and you pay it at checkout and there's no further charges.

Google borderfree and see. Have used it for j crew, gap us and Nordstrom

It will definetly charge if its over a certain price. My dh bought a small camera for the car and it cost him around £15 custom charge. It cost £50.00 for the camera. You pay the duty at the post office. They put a card through the door. You then go and collect it from the sorting office and pay the duty on it.
