Benefit They're Real Mascara - no they're not, they're spidery and clumpy!!

Bought some of this and couldn't wait to try it. Tried it and can't believe I've bought such rubbish. If the look you're after is spidery, clumpy and a bit smudgy then I'd recommend. Back to cheapy Maybelline now.

Sad Its so annoying when you spend a lot of money and are unimpressed. I didn't mind this mascara the one time I tried it (was a present) but I think it's v overpriced and wouldnt get it again.

Big disappointment for me was the Bobby Brown concealer kit which now kicks about unused at the bottom of the drawer. I bet there are thousands spent on makeup that disappoints. Trouble is you have to take that expensive leap of faith to find outHmm

Biscoff · 17/10/2014 08:15

I think benefit are meant to be quite good about taking things back.

IamFitzChivalry · 17/10/2014 08:34

I agree OP...firstly spider-lashes,followed by panda-eyesHmm very disappointed

ProbablyMe · 17/10/2014 08:38

I liked this when I first put it on, but it seemed to stay tacky and during the course of the day my lashes started too stick together and felt horrible.

FauxFox · 17/10/2014 09:23

Bad Gal is the same - Benefit just can't seem to get mascara right for some reason...Maybelline is the way forward imo. Cheaper, non-smudgy and great effect.

CecyHall · 17/10/2014 09:26

Works fine for me so must depend on your eyes I guess.

MarysDressSways1 · 17/10/2014 09:31

It doesn't clump for me and stays put alllll day (sometimes a job to get it off!) so yes maybe it depends on the person! It's my fave at the moment.

Saying that, if anyone can recommend a good 'fake lash/big, long, dramatic eyelashes' mascara, then please let me know as this IS fairly expensive!

Germgirl · 17/10/2014 09:36

I love my They're Real. I find they make my lashes really long and thick. I don't ger spiders legs or clumps.
Are you wiggling the wand to the root of the lashes, & then using the spiky end bit to further lengthen the lashes? Also, wipe the wand before you use it, I do that with all mascara as there's always too much on the wand to begin with.
Otherwise, Benefit are very good at taking things back, so if you can't get on with it, take it back.

Fabulassie · 17/10/2014 09:41

I don't like the stuff, either. Found it gummy.

I recommend Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions False Lash Effect (in a purple tube.) That actually does what it claims to do but behaves like normal mascara. I'd say the results aren't as dramatic as what They're Real can be, but it's a very good mascara.

peasandlove · 17/10/2014 09:54

you cant get that stuff off either, it's the only time I ever wake up with panda eyes.

LordTumble · 17/10/2014 10:52

I didn't get on with this either, I do have quite short lashes though so maybe that's why. I went back to using MaxFactor who I've never had a problem with.

Biscoff · 17/10/2014 11:08

Maybelline falsies is amazing

CambridgeBlue · 17/10/2014 11:10

I found that with They're Real too, really thick and clumpy. Was glad I only had a sample size and hadn't paid full price.

DorisIsALittleBitPartial · 17/10/2014 11:26

I really like They're Real, but I do put a layer of regular mascara on first otherwise it's a bit thin at the roots. And it doesn't smudge on me either, unlike Bad Gal lashes which gives me awful panda eyes.
Has anyone tried their new lid liner (sorry to hijack thread Wink)

Comito · 17/10/2014 11:30

Mine doesn't clump or give me panda eyes either but I do have quite long eyelashes anyway. I also use a primer for eye makeup which may help keep it all in place.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/10/2014 13:33

I love it.
I have a full size and a mini of the They're Real and Bad Gal (black)
I wear the Real if I want a bit 'more' but only one coat. If you try to layer it, it goes Pete Tong.

I couldn't get on with the Plum though, left me a bit pink round the edges.

It is a nightmare to get off but Soap and Glory Drama Queen (micellar water) does the job well.

Iwantmyparcel · 17/10/2014 13:34

Worst mascara I've ever bought. So glad it's not just me. If I hadn't lost the recipt I'd have taken it back. I have one that cost 2 quid that's better. Ugh shame I live their stuff usually.

LarkinSky · 17/10/2014 13:46

Benefit They're Real = hugely disappointing.

Panda eyes within a couple of hours - no good for a long day at the office. And it's clumpy, sticky and I really need an eyelash comb after use. But feel most let down by their anti-smudge claims.
