Winter dress shopping on Saturday - help!

ARGHtoAHHH · 16/10/2014 08:33

Hiya,

Off to buy my yearly winter dress on Saturday. £30 budget but willing to pay more it the dress fits and feels right.

I would like it to be the type of dress that can be worn as a casual and/or smart piece (depending on the footwear / accessories). I don't want it to be too woolly or thick, I don't want to look bigger than I already am (size 14 on a good day, 16 on a not-so-good day), and I get hot quite easily. Must be to the knee and have long sleeves (or 3/4 length).

I have size 32JJ bust, small of waist and large of hip/bum/thigh.

At the moment I am wearing something like this to give you an idea of what I like. Don't usually wear stripes, so looking for something without stripes!

Its not tight but not shapeless either. Need something that will accentuate my waist as mush as possible.

Can anyone tell me where I can find something suitable? Or post some links on here to me an idea of what is about and what is in fashion this season? I am USELESS. And I hate shopping with a passion, so if I could get an idea of what I like, then I will know where to head on Saturday.

Any advice would be really, seriously, appreciated.

TIA Flowers

Morning, I saw some good potential winter dresses in M&S recently, and sales both on in Debenhams and House of Fraser until Sunday, I think. I'm a similar size (15!) and love my all-purpose dresses!

Have fun shopping.

oh, thank you, never thought of M&S - will check out website now. Thanks for the headsup about the sale too.

M&S do good casual to smart wrap type dresses, or ruched jersey dresses. Normally about £50.

Phase Eight do this sort of thing well too, as do Monsoon.

I'm thinking of a slimmer skirt shape than the pic you linked to though.

Behoove · 16/10/2014 20:54

any use
Completely different from your normal but I'm hourglass too and found this very flattering with thick tights and both knee boots and flats. It's a thick jersey material.

ARGHtoAHHH · 16/10/2014 21:03

Thanks both.

Really like the linked dress, something that shape with lower neckline and maybe large print would suit me better though.

£50 is probably a bit out of my budget unfortunately! Sad

Matalan have a range in from Damsel in a Dress.

ARGHtoAHHH · 16/10/2014 21:21

Thanks bike, unfortunately there are no stores near me (gutted)

Have a look at purplish.co.uk as the dresses might suit. I have one from there and love it. Fits in all the right places! I bought it from a little clothes shop near me.

My winter dress this year was a grey one from m&s collection. It's a grey one with cowl neck. Flattering shape.

Have fun shopping!

I get a velour dress from here every other year. They are warm , comfortable and can be dressed up or down

ARGHtoAHHH · 16/10/2014 21:50

Kahlua4me wow, yes! Love some of their stuff. Only had a quick look, will have a proper look tomorrow. But that's the style I love. Lovely big prints.

I couldn't see a store locator. Is there only one shop (north London I think it said)

I bought mine in Hartley Wintney, but am sure I have seen them at fairs and other places. Probably worth ringing them.

I thought you might like them as I loved the one you linked to!

ARGHtoAHHH · 16/10/2014 22:09

I'll give them a call tomorrow then.

Yeah love that stripy dress. It's from a shop called masaii. An expensive shop (for me at the moment) I know I'd probably find something there but just can't afford it. Purplish is reasonably priced

Thanks for the link, slug. Love the styles and patterns of some of the dresses, but don't get on with valour!

Have you an M&S outlet? They often have a decent range of dresses.

CambridgeBlue · 17/10/2014 11:13

I love that dress Behoove, might be tempted... :)

zippyandbungle · 17/10/2014 11:21
