Where do you buy work clothes if you're 5'3" or under?

I am so tired of trailing round the shops & coming back with nothing.
All I want is a few nice things for work but can't anything to fit me nicely. I'm 39, size 10-12 pear shaped, 5'3".

I've just tried on 5 pairs of black work trousers from Next and none looked tight! The petite length was too short & regular is too big around tops of legs, even a size down.

I really like knitted or jersey type dresses or shift style dresses but can't seem to find any to fit my height.

Please if you are the same height/size can you tell me where you buy your work clothes?

I'm a little shorter and the next ones fit me, sorry. Have you tried Principles at Debenhams and Wallis?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/10/2014 18:07

There's never much choice in petites - Wallis does sometimes have a few things. Might be worth booking a 'personal shopper' or whatever they call it at debenhams or other dept store so they can trawl the various petite sections for you?

TipseyTorvey · 13/10/2014 18:09

I'm about the same height, I find I get the best result when I buy hobbs (in the sale) or similar then pay to have things taken up. Bit of a faff but at least things fit on my bum.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2014 18:15

Am also 10-12, 5'2 but hour glass.

I wear lots of pencil skirts - M&S
Whistles tube skirts
My best trousers are from Cos, but generally I find it difficult to find affordable trousers in a decent fabric, that fit well.
I have a few jersey and knitted dresses but they are getting old now. Best buys in the past have been from the White Company in the sales.

nothruroad · 13/10/2014 18:17

I'm the same size and shape as you and am having problems finding work dresses too. I get trousers in the petite section of Wallis but they bobble really easily. I think I'm going to start paying to get things taken up I think.

Precis petite in the sale or their end of lines at justlastseason.co.uk. Have to be alert for frumpiness though

standingonlego · 13/10/2014 19:14

I have given up on trousers - I am just under 5'3" too and have sane inbetween problem. Size 10 - inverted triangle. I live in shift dresses with opaques

Jemster · 13/10/2014 19:23

Standingonlego where do you get your dresses from please? I am fed up with trying to find trousers that fit, all the Next ones I just tried made me look like a parsnip!!

Oasis, fever, Matalan Blush, marks and spencer and a fab one from top shop. I just know what suits me and keep my eyes open. I have a précis petite dress & 3/4 sleeve jacket set for power meetings :)

All 5ft and 3/4 of an inch here Grin

Size 12, big old pear.

I only really wear dresses with tights - Cos, Zara, Whistles, Comptoir.

Next trousers are crap quality.

Banana Republic do a good petite range, as does Gap online now. I tend to buy cotton & wool and have them adjusted.

Mango and H&M have some nice cotton ones in too.

I'm 5'1", size 10, quite long legs and shorter waisted. I like Jigsaw, their cropped trousers are the right length for me, I've got these in navy www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-stretch-wool-turn-up-trousers/p1621519?colour=Grey. I bought lots from them in the summer including their chino cropped trousers and a couple of dresses. I've also got these two skirts www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-balmoral-check-skirt-purple/p1667674 and www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-textured-tweed-mini-skirt-black/p1667380

This might be too casual, as I didn't buy for work but was a good length on me and the fit wasn't 'swamping' like some jumper dresses www.johnlewis.com/french-connection-marla-merino-wool-dress-utility-blue/p1617337 and I also bought Jigsaw's duffle coat for wearing at weekends. (I honestly don't work for Jigsaw!)

I've found the odd thing in Gap, Massimo Dutti, Zara Whistles and LK Bennett (like their shoes, but have some nice skirts and knitwear)

I'm 5ft3 as well.
I've recently got lots of dresses from Roman Originals.
Just for work. I've tried to be a bit more mature in my dress sense. Well I am now the wrong side of 45 so it was time!
think this one next?
I have this and it's very flattering. Always get comments.
Have the same dress in a variety of colours and just add different colour bolero's for the winter.
like this too they nicely hide my tummy.
pretty with a pink bolero??
