Anyone remember Claudia winklemans dress from week last Saturday?

So, I was drooling over Claudia winklemans dress while watching strictly with DH last weekend, and when I got home from work on Friday, he only handed me a box with said dress in it Grin Grin Grin

I have to say, the picture doesn't even do it justice, it's beautiful and fits me perfectly.

Only trouble is, I don't think I'll ever go anywhere where I can wear a long evening dress.

Do you think it could be altered to knee length? The material is quite heavy and its lined. In the picture it looks like it flares out a bit at the bottom but it doesn't, it's straight.

So I either get myself invited to a swanky black tie do or I just admire it from the hanger.

I wouldn't be altering it myself by the way, I can't even see a button on. I have a dressmaker down the road who makes a lot of lovely dresses for a friend of mine.

Yes it could be altered, but do get someone really good to do it - a local tailor. Are you sure it wouldn't look unbalanced/topheavy? try pinning it up and drift around in it for a bit to check it works short. Position all the mirrors in the house so you can get as many glimpses of yourself as you possibly can while you are drifting

hellsbellsmelons · 13/10/2014 11:38

I don't think I'd be altering that. It's lovely.
What a fab DH you have there!
Ask him to take you somewhere that you can actually wear it.
It's Christmas coming up don't forget.
I'd wear that on Christmas day!

PulpsNotFiction · 13/10/2014 12:06

I think you could be right about it looking top heavy if I have it shortened. I'll try and pin it to see what the balance is like. Thanks.

He's certainly earned himself a few brownie points!

Oh don't alter it, it's beautiful! I was lusting after it too, but as a top-heavy 5' 1", it would look awful on me. It's not too black-tie - you could wear it to a Christmas party or a wedding. Clever DH. Envy

Wow, what a DH you have there.. That is unspeakably romantic. Does he have a brother? ( quickly works out what to do with current DH..).

I wouldn't adjust.. It's classic. Love it, store it carefully and one day you will need it. Also maybe I am being soppy but it kind of alters the gesture also not to keep it as it is..

Behoove · 13/10/2014 12:26

That is a lovely website. Damn you pulps!

How is the sizing? The dresses look like they are cut to flatter a womanly figure?

PulpsNotFiction · 13/10/2014 14:52

You're right, the dress will stay as it is, alter the dress & it would alter the gesture. I just love it so much Grin I want to wear it soon!

He does have a brother but not one you'd touch with a barge pole, I definitely bagged a good one! So keep hold of your DH Mildred Wink
I think it's an amazing dress for £99, looks much more expensive.

He actually bought it in a 10 & a 12 just incase, ( sensible enough to present me with the size ten first!) happy to report the 10 fits, ( thank you 5:2)
I'd say it's true to size but will benefit from some unsexy big scaffolding knickers to prevent my arse wobbling about. I might be a ten but I'm not toned!

Sooooo DH is actually £100 up? And will therefore be taking you to dinner in your new dress at the weekend?

PrivateJourney · 13/10/2014 15:09

OMG, I don't know what's most shocking:

  • A Strictly presenter wearing a beautiful dress
  • A DH who even heard you when you were talking about it.
  • A DH who knew what to do to find it
  • The fact that it apparently looks as good in RL as it did on TV
  • That CW was wearing a £99 dress on the telly

I don't think you need to alter it. With flat sandals or other simple accessories that's actually quite wearable. Could turn out to be the most useful thing you have in your wardrobe.

desperatehousewife21 · 13/10/2014 16:53

I also wanted to comment about your fab dh!!

I'm lucky if I get bought flowers on a whim.

PulpsNotFiction · 13/10/2014 18:32

Aww. Thanks everyone. He is a love, I've had a really shite time of it recently as my mum has had major surgery following a cancer diagnosis and spent 6 weeks in hospital, a week of it in critical care and he's been a rock.

Does he go up in your estimations even more if I tell you for my birthday recently he booked us ballroom & Latin lessons? Grin Grin.
To say it's out of his comfort zone doesn't even cover it (he's made me promise not to tell anyone! obviously you lot don't count!) but we've been for the last 3 weeks and he's bloody better than me! We had a great time! Not told the kids until we can wow them with our cha cha cha! Grin

privatejourney your post made me laugh! * Lenny, well if you put it like that! Better get looking at a swanky restaurant.
