What are the hip 20 somethings wearing?

I am a 20 something, but have been told I look like mid 30s, so I want to try and dress a bit better than I do- while I have the chance.

Losing the weight would probably help but that's a long term project but I want an instant fix.

I really like this girl's style: www.fashionmenow.co.uk/

tethersend · 11/10/2014 14:40

Exactly what I wore during the 90s, apparently.

enormouse · 11/10/2014 14:49

I don't know if I can be called hip. But I'm 25 and dress like this.

I also like the way zooey deschanel and Clara from doctor who dress.

Purpleflamingos · 11/10/2014 14:50

My 25 yr old cousin gets mistaken for one of her pupils outside of school and dresses like I did in the late nineties (floral dresses, black tights, chunky boots, leather jacket).

WeDONTneedanotherhero · 11/10/2014 20:03

I wear either skinny jeans and over sized tshirt with a blazer combo or oversized jumper and doc martens.

or

A pencil skirt (bright colours, red, blue, mustard yellow) and a top with thick tights and doc martens.

And

either a leather jacket or parka.

WeDONTneedanotherhero · 11/10/2014 20:04

And i'm later 20's and work with teenagers and they all think im "cool" Grin

Thank you for all the replies!

Sofa that girl has the most amazing wardrobe, I am very envious, but what a great style!

If it's 90's tethers I'm out, I wore those skirt/trouser combos in a shiny fabric from New Look and hair mascara.

Lovely ideas to think about, I do need to step away from the librarian look I've adopted. I want all those who are classed as cool by teens to give me a complete breakdown of their wardrobe, I want to be like that still! Grin

I'm 21 and love clothes and putting stuff together.

I'm not hugely imaginative though Blush I like the plain, streamlined Cos/Zara look. It often happens that I'm dressed all in Zara (double blush).

Lots of oversized jumpers over turned up skinnies, tank tops tucked into swishy skirts, ankle boots, all muted dark colours. I try not to have more than two colours at the same time, then I add a shade of white, black or grey. Really like the heavy covered up on top look contrasting with skintight trousers.
Don't buy anything with the vaguest hint of a sequin or mixed fabrics or jumpers with thick hems or those rounded v necks or oh god I have such a list, am very difficult.

I've tried to do colourful and bright before and it doesn't suit me and I don't really like it much on other people (sorry!) either.

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2014 00:16

Well, I'm 29, so just squeezing in.

I usually wear skinnies or short skirts and dresses with ankles boots and chunky knits or shirts (be they denim, plaid or silk). I occasionally substitute leather leggings for the skinnies.

I go to town on shoes. For daywear at the moment it's Pistols, biker boots, high tops or suede OTKs. For evening flat Rockstuds, embellished shoe boots or pointy courts (black patent Louboutins or Zebra print guccis)

For outerwear I tend to favour a leather biker, black blazer or navy peacoat. I also have a navy arctic parka for less clement weather and a few faux furs for evening.

ThisBitchIsResting · 12/10/2014 12:41

Hip twentysomethings I work with wear bleached skinnies, super chunky boots, oversized shirts, crop tops with high waist trousers, skater skirts, lots of makeup like cats eyes and statement lippy. Messy hair a must.

Sigh, I'm only 33 but they make me feel so conservative.

And don't worry about your weight - it's youth itself that is beautiful, wear the clothes and you will carry them off. Hit River Island and Topshop and try some shapes you've never tried before and see how you get on. You can always tone down the styles but I think being more experimental is key.

ThisBitchIsResting · 12/10/2014 12:43

I like that blogger's style SofaCanary but I'd say it was more 30something.

theparadoxofourage · 12/10/2014 14:07

Monochrome/with grey and navy mixed in. Lots of really oversized, baggy shapeless things as far as I can tell:( fine if you don't have 32dd boobs. Crew necks make me look like matron and the gamine/andgrogynous look is most definitely here to stay:s It does look amazing on some people though.

theparadoxofourage · 12/10/2014 14:09

Friends of mine tell me they want my wardrobe and I prefer a much more tailored look but it's not really 'in trend' at the moment.

enormouse · 12/10/2014 14:27

I tend to stick to colours that compliment my skin tone (Olive with dark eyes) - teal, burgundy, olive green, mustard, navy, grey. But if I really like a certain item in a different colour I'll give it a try. Clean lines and tailoring suit me better than frills, ruffles or embellishments (That said, I do like my funny t shirts). I like high waisted shorts/skirts or skinny jeans.

If I'm wearing a fitted top I'll go for either a sweetheart neckline or a v neck. Baggy jumpers/sweatshirts - crew neck.

For shoes - I like slipper style flats, brogues, heeled ankle boots or doc martens.

Coats - biker jacket, tailored macs or my military style wool coat.

I have a messy bob that's shorter at the back but before that I had a pixie cut.
