After a cold shivery winter last year with a pathetic mac being my winter coat, this year I am buying a decent winter coat!

I would like one that is waterproof and warm, but also stylist. I am 5ft 7 and a size 8.
Would prefer to spend no more than £300.
Thanks so much

How smart, how casual?
For that price you could get a lovely warm wool coat but won't be waterproof. Are you looking for something 'sporty-ish' like North Face and Merrell or any other kind of down coat?

I'd get 2. Something practical for out walking or if you do the school run but a second coat for smarter days.

  1. You need tethersend, she is fantastic (was on my similar thread last year) and will find you something in no time.
  1. In her absence, may I recommend the Hobbs outlet part of their website (Hobbs.com) where there are some good coat bargains to be had. Yoox.com is also good, especially for smaller sizes, and TKMaxx.

Agree with pp suggesting getting both, no point in having a lovely snug wool coat if it's chucking it down but also you don't want to wear an outdoorsy jacket to a christmas party!

What about this for £150 in the sale, with something like this for non-rainy wear.

Otherwise maybe something like this if you only wanted one?

Thanks so much!

So, I think I am going to go with the north face arctic parka. I have found it for £250. Nit is the 2014 range, so apparently nicer fit. It sounds about deliciously warm.

I am a sahm, so no need for smart work coat. I probably go out in the evening 2/3x a month, and usually out for dinner in a taxi, so happy to wear my lighter coat for then.

Anyone got the north face arctic 2014?

As above, depends if you want smart (like office work) stylish, or casual stylish. Waterproof, warm AND stylish don't tend to go together, and believe me I have done my research!

You have a decent budget though. I tend to think a fur tipped hood adds a bit of style, and for warmth and waterproofness I think North Face are best in that price range. The belt on this one give it some shape I think, less like a sleeping bag:

This will be superwarm, but these styles are never waterproof:

Other good warm and waterproof brands are Fjall Raven and you might find Canada Goose and Woolrich for that price on eBay, fantastic but double your budget full price!

As you can see, I don't mess around with waterproof and warm but I really feel the cold and tend to think good style means dressing appropriately for the conditions and situation. There's a time and a place for high fashion! Good luck :)

sorry, missed your last post, in addition to my suggestions above, I do have the NF Arctic Parka and you won't be disappointed. It has seen me through the recent snowy winters perfectly, and I've just had it machine washed and dried at the dry cleaners and it has come back looking like new.

Fcuk. I love that! Exactly what I was looking for. I bought the north arctic before seeing your post. Meant to be delivered tomorrow. If I am not impressed, I will get the one you mentioned. Thanks

No mention of being waterproof though?!

Second thoughts. Whilst the style looks great, it doesn't look all that practical. Not waterproof and no mention of warmth factor. Seeing as I can spend a lot of the day in playgrounds or on school run, I need something pretty damn warm!

Your right, I assumed it would be waterproof!
I still like it though, if I dont see anything else I'll probably get it and then moan about being wet Grin

The arctic parka is waterproof. I just bought it and it says so on the label
