Uniqlo ultra thin down coats - are they ACTUALLY any good?

Live in the wilds of Scotland where it gets a bit chilly (understatement). Will this keep me toasty? Are they showerproof at all?

Don't have one myself (yet) but have heard that they're really warm but not waterproof. I think the idea is that you wear them under something thin and waterproof but perhaps someone can correct me on that.

Have a search through the Mumsnet search thingy - I've been looking for info on sizing and there are quite a few threads on these jackets.

I have one & I really love it for warmth without bulk but it's not good in rain & feathers would rot apparently. I haven't been brave enough to wash it either as scared to ruin down

Thanks for the links, Lilac. Living in Scotland and having a DS that plays rugby, it's a given that I'll get wet. Perhaps not a great idea in the rain then.

I started one of the above threads. I was put off getting one when I clicked on the link about how the feathers are obtained :(
