Can anyone recommend an investment coat/jacket?

I would like to buy a jacket that is suitable for Autumn/winter. I'm willing to spend up to £200 on something that will last me for years and not go out of fashion.

Any ideas? something just above knee length, in a dark colour, waterproof, with a hood but still smart enough for work would be ideal!

I'm early 30s and would probably be wearing it with black tights, knee length boots and some kind of dress most of the time.

I would check out John Lewis - they have a good selection of coats that may fit the bill

I was going to say Jaegar - was in an outlet yesterday and their wool coats are so beautiful, but then saw you need waterproof. There have been loads of threads about this particular holy grail over the years so do have a look - I have a Merrell which is great.
