I browse online but im not inspired. Whats all the hype about? Are the clothes that good to justify the price??? They are really expensive.

Work chum enthuses too re them...can't see anything special myself...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2014 19:28

I only buy the tube skirts full price, and have a couple of other bits from sales. The quality is generally decent, although you have to search through a lot of polyester nowadays. I like the prints, and really like their t-shirts.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 19:31

well i look online and its nothing special...i agree. Maybe its the cut?

SunnySomer · 03/10/2014 19:33

I think the quality is pretty poor considering the price actually. Like the shapes of some things, but have been really unimpressed with how long things have stayed looking good.

GeorginaWorsley · 03/10/2014 19:33

I like the jeans.

...i do like the tube skirts..but they are way overpriced.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2014 19:40

The tube skirts are two or three times the price of Topshop ones, but wash and come up like new every time and keep their shape really, really well. I'm not one for mindless splashing of the cash, but they are honestly far, far superior to the cheap ones.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 19:44

They are made of lovely jersey i totally agree. I just dont get what others find so great about whistles and i feel i need to be enlightened!!!

Their clothes are cut for women, rather than teen-like sizes available in many high street stores. However, there is an over-reliance on polyester which makes my toes curl so I don't buy from there as a rule.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 19:49

Polyester..yuk!! ..and such a cheap material..how can they justify the prices?
At least the likes of toast charge you an arm and a leg but you are getting wool, cotton, silk, cashmere. Im not sure i have had anything made from polyester from them.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2014 19:51

Except most of the stuff from Toast looks as if it was made in 1947, from squashed yaks.

Ujjayi · 03/10/2014 19:56

Grin at squashed yaks!

Seriously, if I can make and sell a silk blouse for £90 and still make a profit (I'm a freelance womenswear designer) then the likes of Whistles definitely can afford to.

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 03/10/2014 19:58

Ah yes, but they can make more profit if it's polyester.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 19:59

Yes, you have to select Toast stuff very carefully. im not into tents.

Whistles was good a couple of years back. However, they have got greedy and stupid.

I'm rarely tempted by anything in there anymore.

Floisme · 03/10/2014 20:11

I think the tube skirts are worth it. I wasted almost as much money on cheaper versions before I bit the bullet and I wish I'd done it sooner.

But the other stuff, I don't know, some of it does hang really nicely but I can't get past the prices or the fabrics. I tried this jumper on the other week when I had a Grazia vouchers:
www.whistles.com/women/clothing/knitwear/mimmi-silk-mix-boxy.html?dwvar_mimmi-silk-mix-boxy_color=Navy#st
It did look really nice on but £85 for 85% viscose and nylon.... even with 25% off, I couldn't do it.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 20:14

You see...thats what i mean...£85 for a jumper that looks like something quite honestly out of next. I mean, it looks nice but totally agree that its over priced esp for the material and i think its what you say Mrs Campbell..they do seem to have got greedy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2014 20:15

I've been drooling over this but it's v expensive - silk though, for a change!

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 20:19

Just wondering Remus..what is it you like about it?

OP posts:
Floisme · 03/10/2014 20:19

It did hang really nicely Greengardenpixie - much better than it looks. If it had been even just 50% natural fibre, I'd have probably bought it with the discount. But viscose and nylon, no.

EmilyGilmore · 03/10/2014 20:19

Is it the Whistles website where the models look really weird. And sad. And stroppy. Puts me off buying anything tbh.

Floisme · 03/10/2014 20:19

Sorry cross post - I was talking about the jumper not Remus's skirt!
