Curly Girl Hair Cut........ Love It!

Finally had my appointment with Mat James in Birmingham and for the first time in years my hair looks fab without having to blow dry. Have been doing the curly girl method for the last 5 months and my hair was looking ok not fantastic and was a bit of a nightmare the second day as it was always matted.

Kept my length (just past shoulders) but layers were added and Mat worked his magic and my hair is just lovely. So if anyone thinking of getting a curly cut go for it you won't regret it!

Very jealous. I don't suppose he ever comes to London? B'ham is a long way to go for a hair cut!

ZaraW · 03/10/2014 23:11

Unfortunately not. I travelled over an hour to see him and it was well worth it my hair has been transformed.

What be this? Can you elaborate?

I have below the shoulder curly/wavy hair and I'm bored shitless of it.

Usually get it cut twice a year, just to take the ends off.

Looking for something new, can you explain please? Smile

Matthew James is a hairdresser who specialises in cutting curly/wavy hair, and has lots of good reviews. He uses the curl by curl, dry cutting method used at Lorraine Massey's Deva salons in the US. He is at Puro Hair in Birmingham I think.

ARGHtoAHHH · 03/10/2014 23:35

Ah okay. Is there an equivalent in London?

temporaryusername · 04/10/2014 00:03

I don't know if there is an equivalent as in using the same method. There are probably some good people to try though....Unruly Curls near Shepherds Bush maybe? No personal experience of going there but there might be some reviews on British Curlies website.

Thanks temp, I'll have a look see

Gatekeeper · 04/10/2014 07:25

need pics!!!!!! My hair is a mixture of kinky sheeps hair, straight bits, curls and waves

ThePerfectNegroni · 04/10/2014 07:29

I'm going to se him in november. I had a Deva cut in NYC a few years ago and gave up on CG as I couldn't find anybody who could cut my hair well enough. I have high hopes. If you look for Matthew James Hair on Facebook people have posted pictures of their cuts.

ZaraW · 04/10/2014 09:50

The great thing is once you wash and add gel etc your hair looks just as good as when you left the salon.

Right. Will be checking out the one in shepherd's bush. Thank you!

ZaraW · 04/10/2014 10:04

Go for it, I was always envious of my friends with straight silky hair. I only wish I did it years ago instead of frying my hair by blow drying and using straighteners.

Sorry to be rude...how much did it cost?
Any chance of b4 and after pics?

ZaraW · 05/10/2014 11:12

It was 55 pounds and worth every penny. Sorry I didn't take any photos before the cut but look on his web site there are some examples there.

SwedishEdith · 05/10/2014 11:16

£55 is not bad. What's he actually done - just put lots of random layers in? And does it only work on curly curly hair as opposed to frizzy wavy hair?

ohmothermaidenheadi · 05/10/2014 11:23

55 is not to bad... can we see the after?

ZaraW · 05/10/2014 12:01

SwedishEdith Curly Girl works for wavy hair as far as I know but you can email the salon and see what they say.

My sister has v curly hair. She got the best cut of her life at a salon with Afro Carribbean owners and customer base.

SwedishEdith · 05/10/2014 17:49

Thanks. My hair felt horrible when I tried to follow the CG method so I'm happy to not bother with that. I'm just intrigued about the haircut really.
