Dinner and drinks night out in the City (London). With DH and another couple of long-time friends.

What on earth do I wear?

Have an extensive wardrobe, so no need for anything new. I like a dress but all mine are short, so unless boiling, I wear with black tights and will be too warm for that.

I'm nearly 40 but in fairly good nick for an old bird Wink

All suggestions welcome.

Why do you need tights?
Tough it out.......bit of St T and leg oil and you're a goddess

I have some culottes that I am still trying not to look an arse in....so me be culottes? ( if they work let me know so
I can wear )

LesleyKnopeFan · 02/10/2014 07:45

I don't have time to fake tan the legs, will have 1 hour to get ready, that's shower, hairwash etc. I'm pretty pale as well, so can't slap it on.

I have culottes but they have a very summery print, look fab with flip flops and a vest tucked in. I just need a wide-brimmed floppy hat a la Mrs Clooney and I'm set, tho I do not live in Venice.....

I totes don't know what to wear. My legs are my redeeming feature, maybe I'll just go pale and interesting? Tho DH suggested nice jeans, top, heels etc. Which I could rock (Blush) but is just so boring

Can I add that I rarely go out so this event is causing quite a bit of excitement in my world.

We sound like we could be related OP! I absolutely hate turning seasons for this reason. Seem to live in jeans, when bare/ tight-ed legs isn't doable. I was going to post on here this spring in that exact topic actually and never got around to it.
Do you have any midi skirts? They work when it's cooler. Or cigarette pants? That silhouette looks great. Or can you tan that morning/ night before? I use no7 in fair, it's really easy to apply, gives a natural finish and lasts for a few days before fading gradually so you can prep it. Bare legs is totally doable at the moment, weather wise.
Sorry if your night out is tonight and I'm too late to be of any help!
Tbh sounds like you are going to have fun in any case!

PicnicGatecrasher · 02/10/2014 08:50

That's boots no7 obvs

Do you have a midi skirt? It's a look I'd love to pull off - unfortunately I'm too short and large or arse...

with vest top
with lightweight jumper
with crisp white shirt

Just get some Garnier summer body cream.
The darker one.
Use every other day on your legs until the night out.
Unless of course it's tomorrow. If so then get some and put it on tonight and then some again in the morning and your legs will be fab.
Really rub it in though you don't want streaks at all.

Go with the short dress. If you've got it flaunt it!

burnishedsilver · 02/10/2014 12:37

Are you sure its going to be too warm for tights? Autumn has arrived today in my neck of the woods. Its the first day that I'd say is opaque tights weather.

burnishedsilver · 02/10/2014 12:39

Just looked at a weather forecast. It says down to 5 degrees on Sat night in London.

LesleyKnopeFan · 02/10/2014 13:29

Well folks, I've Garnier Summer'ed the legs. Picked a black, shorts playsuit with closed toe heels.

I really hope it's not too short.

Not sure about jacket.

It is this season though, I felt very cold this morn and it will prob be chilly in the eve.

My problem is the weather, defo. I know I'd feel more comfy in jeans and a top but that's just a bit meh, wear jeans everyday.

I don't have a fabulous evening top, all I have is black t's and shells, so will feel a bit 'Saturday shopping'.

I have some dressy 'pants' but there's lots of young, trendy things in the city and I don't want to look like I'm out of touch even though I am

Well, following a mini fashion show, dh concluded that jeans, top, heels and levver jacket is the way to go.

So, I now have ridiculously brown feet and smell of biscuits but at least outfit is sorted.

I shall report back on how suitable the outfit was, when compared to all at the other girls abart tarn (I used to be one of these sob).

According to DH, when he 'looks around' that's what all the girls in the City are wearing. Ho? does he get any work done, I wonder, if he's doing a one-man poll of these city ladies and their sartorial choices?
