Anyone tried the new home hair straightening kit they are selling in Boots?

Does it work? I have to use hair straightners every time I wash my hair and wondered if this would be the answer.

I would be wary about this to be honest, if you would feel confident to use a home perm kit (same chemicals as straightening lotion)then go for it but I def would be brave enough.

Thanks louii. Anyone else tried it?

ComeOVeneer · 27/09/2006 11:00

ooh let me know how you get on!! i will be going to get mine on friday!!

ComeOVeneer · 27/09/2006 15:46

Right I've bought it, but it is a long drawn out process so I think I will leave it until the weekend to do.

Please do tell us how you get on! I've read about this and wondered whether to try it, but I have my hair coloured and apparently you're not supposed to use it on coloured hair?

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 28/09/2006 12:42

I got it yesterday but haven't had time to try it yet! Had hair chemically straightened 2 yrs ago and it was great!! Dh said he would help me with it....no sure though

AnAngelWithin · 30/09/2006 15:13

right i have been and bought mine today! it is a long drawn out process though i think. i might get my husband to help me with it later. heaven knows i don't want it to go wrong!! anyones else done theirs yet??

firsttimemama · 30/09/2006 15:48

I've tried this product and I have to say I was pleasently surprised with the results. My hair was the wavy kind that frizzes and "grows" - in the rain! a la Monica in friends!

It has smoothed it out and it is much easier and quicker to dry - i don't use straightners on a day to day basis but I can now get quick managable hair with just a blast of the dryer - have even left it au natrel and not ended up with a birds nest.

It is a long process - I recommednd that you do it on an evening or day when you hair has been washed already - mine was dirty so I ended up washing and drying it three times - complete fag!!

Also I have blonde streaks in my hair and I still used it - I think it has improved the colour! - It's lightened it up a fraction.

Also, yes it is a little drying - you do feel that the natural oils have been stripped and I did not rate the conditioner that was suppled I've gone back to my usual brand and the my hair condition is more than acceptable. Good Luck - I'll be using this product again!

Ooh, ooh, ooh, I've just looked at the boots site and the video they have on this, and I'm really excited, it looks like the answer to my prayers.

Surely it's got to be better than using my straighteners every single day, as I do at the moment?

Will buy it, get my friend to come round and help me do it, and report back (may be some time before I do, mind!)

AnAngelWithin · 14/10/2006 15:29

right. got it on now! wish me luck! lol

sanchpanch · 14/10/2006 16:25

have you got curly hair or do you just want it straighter.? my hair isnt curly but i straighten it every day to get it straighter!!! just wondering if it is only aimed at people with curly hair, or would it help mine be straighter?

how often do you have to redo it?

lulumama · 14/10/2006 16:35

i used it as i have fine hair that frizzes and looks crap unless i blowdry and straighten everyday

it does dry your hair out ,but have started using differnet conditrioner and serum and looking better now....

i blast it with the hairdryer and it is much much smoother..when i straighten it, it stays straight all day

got caught in bad rain and it kinked a little bit, but not as much and on dry days it is fine,,,

says to redo regrowth every 3months

NOTE - you have to really concentrate on combing and pulling hair really straight while using the treatment as i didn;t at the front and it is not as straight as the rest!!

AnAngelWithin · 14/10/2006 17:10

my hair has got a natural curl in it. if i left it to dry naturally it would look like i had a loose perm.

anyway, the results are in. and.............

its GREAT I've never been able to just blow dry my hair without having to worry about pulling it straight with a brush, sticking loads of mousse etc on and go out without looking like a bloody pom pom!! my hair is straight enough for me like this!! ok its not totally poker straight, but its still fantastic considering i just blasted it with the drier without using a brush!! mind you, i might still let DH buy me those GHDs for christmas for when I can't be arsed to do this every 12 weeks! lol

So go get it girls! its great!! Really recommend it!

sanchpanch · 14/10/2006 17:24

that didnt take long, was it easy to use or do you need someone to put it on for you?

glad you are pleased with it, might be good to use inn the winter when even though you have used ghd's hair doesnt stay straight due to the damp weather

AnAngelWithin · 14/10/2006 17:38

took about 2 hours from start to finish. I did it myself. DH was going to help me do it but it was easy enough to do by myself!!

sanchpanch · 14/10/2006 17:44

is the kit for one use only?

AnAngelWithin · 14/10/2006 17:46

depends on the length of your hair really. mines just below my shoulder and i used about 3/4 of it. it does say that its ok to use up to 12 months after opening though.

Hattie2 · 14/10/2006 19:07

This sounds like just what I need! Any idea what's in it and if you can use it while pregnant?

emsiewill · 06/11/2006 21:05

Well I've bought my kit today, but I'm quite scared about using it - what if it all goes horribly wrong...?

Please give me some encouragement.

lulumama · 06/11/2006 21:06

did it almost 3 months ago and am still delighted... ihave posted earlier ,lower down on this thread......i am going to do my roots soon....just need to check as i need to colour hair so might do that first if necceary....good lcuk!

emsiewill · 06/11/2006 21:08

The instructions are so scary "at this point your hair is at its most vulnerable" I have terrible visions of all my hair breaking off and me being bald...

lulumama · 06/11/2006 21:10

oh me too.. i have really fine hair too!

DH helped me and made me sign a disclaimer her wrote, saying if i ended up bald it was not his fault! as i needed him to help me with the combing!!

honestly think it was ok........certainly no signs of damge 3 months on!

emsiewill · 06/11/2006 21:12

lol @ disclaimer. I have asked dd1 (aged 9) if she will help me. She has already helped our friend to wax her arms. I am trying to tell her it's all part of her "woman's education", she, unfortunately, is too smart to fall for that...
