These were masculine and badly fitting in the flesh! I wanted to love them but you were right, they're not good, and I could see that (at least I'm learning!).

So I tried the Orinoco Club and the Hotel Chase as well. The Orinoco is lovely and undoubtedly adds a tougher sort of look at a nice price, but I thought I wanted something a little bit more gentle and feminine. I don't know how they'd look with a dress/skirt & tights? I quite like the Chase upper & styling, but am rather less keen on the pale sole & rim. What about the Orinoco Sash too?

Thoughts?

I have the Orinoco Sash in black from last year. They are great - but are proper biker boots - hardly 'gentle and feminine'! I wear with skinnies usually.

Have bought these this year which are lovely - will wear with dresses and skirts... Material Art. They're more very dark grey than black btw.

I've just ordered those too QueenQueenie!

How about the Ladbroke Tango ones? They are biker-ish but more streamlined to my mind.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/09/2014 11:18

Trouble is I like the original ones (which is no good if they don't fit) and the pale soled ones. But the lights likes look hard and thin. I give boots a hammering in all weathers so that's no use.

I think I'm confused about what it is I actually do want, that's part of the problem. I already have a couple of pairs of calf boots I can wear with almost everything, but I was originally looking for a pair of cute yet tough ankle boots to wear with skirts/dresses. I don't like either the Tango or the Art. If I don't care about pleather/fake and for a single season wear, what about these?

these might fit the bill. I like the grey.

I would buy leather if possible. Pleather isn't great for your feet.

I've been looking at these Moshulu Doughnut boots - they have that tough but feminine thing going on... hoping to come across a discount code though as they are a bit pricey.

Ooh Milmingebag, I do quite like the Halle! I don't really want pleather if there's a nice leather pair available, because unless it's good pleather and well styled, it just looks like... pleather! I also looked at the Malia Hawthorne in store, but it's very shiny and combined with the moulded heel piece and the shank underneath makes it look really cheap and a bit old lady-ish.

Those Doughnuts are lovely too msfreud, but yes, pricey.
