Boots or flats for autumn/winter ?

My lovely nude ballet flats which I've lived in since spring are now falling apart and I NEED (!) to replace them. However, with the onset of this autumnal weather, am wondering what best to buy...
Do I replace with another pair of flats (albeit more wintery ones) or, invest in some wintery boots? I need something which works with jeans really, my workplace is casual/smart casual (and chilly in winter) and I do the school runs, so need to be practical....
Any recommendations please??! Thank you!

Me too. I asked if any one had found any flat grey boots that weren't ugh types or suede. Got a few suggestions. I liked the look of some fly London ones. I think the problem with ballet pumps is in the winter I need to wear socks( cold toes are the worst) so can't do pumps

Knee high boots every time. Keep you warm, keep the rain out. No brainier!

here

These are really great in both colour ways. They are lined for warmth too and are a slightly higher style ankle boot so I can get away with wearing maxi tube skirts with them. They are pull on but they slip on easily without having massive ankles.

They are cut really well with an almond toe shape so don't look clumpy- and are incredibly comfortable.

The grey is a warm mink tone and the tan is a slightly washed out muted tan.

Thank you all - I think you're right to head in the boots direction. Think I'm trying to hang on to summer!
So boots-shopping it is - so what's the best style to go for?
Generally to wear with skinnies/straight jeans in blue/grey..
