This is going to look rubbish, isn't it?

Going out with DH on work meal tomorrow night. Had a mild panic about what to wear and ordered this in black 5 minutes before the next day delivery cut off. Now having a wobble.

I'm wobbling because I NEVER wear stuff like this - I am usually a full skirt retro kind of girl - but just really fancied something a bit more wiggly. Is it appropriate? Also worried because I am tall but my body is very very long - will that waistband be too high?

Also wobbling because I had a look at it on the actual New Look site and I would NEVER have ordered it - it looks awful! See?

I have ordered the 10. I am a 10 with boobs but definitely not an 8/10. If it's all baggy like the New Look picture I will cry.

Shall I just cancel the order?

Who knows whether it will suit you but I like it on ASOS and they are better at styling than New Look so it's a decent chance of being lovely. Stop flapping Grin

Just send it back of it's shit. What's the issue?

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 22:32

OK. Must stop flapping. I never get invited on DH's work things and I guess I don't want to embarrass him!

Betty I guess the issue is she wont have anything new to wear tomorrow if it's shit. Hence the panic buying which I can identify totally with.

minkah · 23/09/2014 22:35

Have you got a plan B in case you don't like it?

Awks · 23/09/2014 22:36

Gawd you wont embarrass him at all but you are making pressure for yourself when he wont care if you turn up in your usual stuff, I'm sure. If you like it, wear it but if it looks baggy at the bottom like on the NL site then just wear something you already have.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 22:40

Thanks Awks! Plan B...plan B... I'm sure I can sort something! Yep I won't wear it if I don't feel great.

OP posts:
minkah · 23/09/2014 22:45

Sort out a plan B in your head so that you only wear the dress if you really like it.

I bet you have something?

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 22:50

To be fair it might not even arrive! Just realised it can arrive any time before 9pm and we're going out at 6.45!!!

I do have a couple of options but the colours are a bit summery. They'd do though I suppose.

Bet the other wife looks amazing. They're European and everything!

Could be worse. Could have ordered this in my moment of madness!

That last link is hideous. There is absolutely no woman on earth that that would look good on.

I'm sure your dress will be fine.

Hahaha! Count your blessings you won't look shiny and chorizo like, yeah.

Dig out some nice earrings and pretty lipstick. That and some perfume does wonders.

Hope you enjoy yourself.

hellsbellsmelons · 24/09/2014 09:21

I hope it arrives early and that you look stunning in it.
It looks lovely in the ASOS picture.
Goodness only knows what the people styling for New Look had taken that day to put that model in the dress - Hideous!!

And that M&S dress! Well, words fail me!

IHeartKingThistle · 24/09/2014 09:28

OK it arrived! I really like it. Very comfy and while I may not look as good as the ASOS model I think it fits me better than it fits that poor New Look girl!
Just a bit of extra fabric above my bum (because my bum is lower than the dress thinks it should be because of my insanely long body) but I don't think it's particularly noticeable.

Phew! Thanks everyone!

hellsbellsmelons · 24/09/2014 09:41

Yeah! Really pleased you like it and it looks good.
Blimey I wish I was tall and thin enough to carry that off.
Enjoy your evening.

IHeartKingThistle · 24/09/2014 09:43

Thankyou!

Now worried about having crap hair...

My hair needs a trim atm. It's sort of long bob length, no fringe. I usually wear it up but I think that would make the front of the dress look too formal. Big waves could be the way forward!

WipsGlitter · 24/09/2014 11:23

Blow dry.

burnishedsilver · 24/09/2014 11:35

Curly blow dry or heated rollers.

IHeartKingThistle · 24/09/2014 11:49

Hairdresser?

OP posts:
burnishedsilver · 24/09/2014 11:59

If you've got time go to the hairdresser but if its going to put you under pressure do it yourself.

polyhymnia · 24/09/2014 12:23

Agree - get a blow dry at hairdresser if at all possible - but don't go for too obviously 'done' a style.
As you imply, dress is already quite formal/'dressed-up' enough for any restaurant I know and, if anything, needs slightly playing down, not up for a subtly sophisticated effect.
