What did you wear under your robes for your graduation?

I have mine very soon and don't have a clue what to wear under my robes! I don't like anything above the knee and will need a high neckline to pin the robes on to the front and the shoulders.

Please give me some ideas, I'm really struggling! We have been told to wear 'business dress' but I want something a bit more interesting than black and white. My robes are black with red & yellow trim.

Thanks :)

I always think that shirts lead to the danger of looking a bit vampirish against the black robe.

friend of mine wore a yellow bikini. and shoes.

I had to wear black & white.

I wore a black dress with buttons down the front. But we also took pins so we could pin the gown/hood so it looked better.

IMO it should be all about the gown. Dont detract too much from it with something really bright. There are plenty of really beautiful and interesting looking dresses that are black/dark navy.

I had a lovely black suit that I used for years after. Not sure now what kind of top I had under though. I think colour could work, and that's what I'd choose now, but plain not patterned.

I wore a black knit and black trousers and black heels. It was the best outfit for the graduation gown.

Sub fusc

I wore a black wrap dress (only black thing I could find in maternity wear :/) I wish I had had buttons for the hood though.

Pin the hood to your bra straps and it will stay in place/look immaculate all day.
(I wore a black suit, white shirt and black ribbon tied around the neck of my shirt, all compulsory!)

(Or as Ilona said, sub disc. No decisions needed! :-) )

Thank you all for your help and sorry to desert the thread, have been working long hours. I've decided to go for a plain black (or dark red - I'm tempted and could wear it over xmas too!) shift dress with low heels. The ceremony is inside so won't need to worry about a jacket etc.

Some great ideas on the thread, thanks!
