Please talk to me about bruising/swelling after dermal fillers

I've got an appointment next week but after reading a few nightmare stories online I'm now terrified. The Dr warned me that there could be some swelling and bruising but am now worried about how much and how long it will last for. Can you share your experiences good and bad. I'm having some very fine lip lines done and marionette lines.

I really don't want to spend time off work or have to explain to everyone what the swelling is from. I'm really hoping I can hide it.

I felt like I had burning caterpillars under my skin for about 3 days and wondered what the bloody hell I'd done. There was absolutely nothing visible though

You may have some mild swelling with the lip line, I had mine done and I did look a little 'ducky' for a couple of days, but no one noticed, not even my eagle eyed best friends (I went to a wedding the next day), can you have it done on a Friday afternoon, so that most of the swelling will be gone by when you go back to work, that's what I did.

Re the marionette lines, I have had these done many many times and have only had the minimum of swelling, no one will notice. If you're taking vitamins you should make the Dr aware of these a few days before so that he can tell you whether you need to stop for a few days (some vits, can't remember which, affect the way blood clots so may make you more prone to bruising).

Just fyi I have had fillers and botox for years, in most places you can think of, and have never bruised badly, or had any bad side affects.

Are ice packs advised, I wonder? Arnica?

I think maybe you're talking about fish oils/omega oils Nolm? Best avoided for a few days before injection. Same goes for aspirin and the like. Like any injection, there can be seelling and bruising. But mostly there is very little.

Re the ice packs, they're often used immediately after injection. Does help.

Thanks everyone for your replies it's put my mind at rest, was working myself up a bit about it. I've booked for the Friday so hopefully all will be OK for work monday. Am more worried about my mum noticing and giving me a bollocking tbh

I had no swelling or bruising when I had my marionette lines done this year. I did get a bit puffy under my eyes and had a bruise under one when I had my tear ducts done at the same time. It was noticeable through makeup for about 10 days. Think that area is probably more sensitive though especially for first timers. Tell your mum you walked into a door like I did with my persistent MIL!
