Chiffon blouses, how to wear?

I've bought a top shop cream chiffon butterfly print 3/4 sleeve blouse, wore it with a white vest and skinny black jeans, looked a baggy frump. Where did I go wrong?

I think blouses can feel fancy and flouncy if you're used to wearing simply cut clothes. How you wore it sounds absolutely fine to me, keeping everything else simple.

ememem84 · 21/09/2014 08:28

What shoes?

I have a few blouses like this but usually wear them at work, tucked into pencil skirt or skinny trousers with a skinny belt.

I'd think though it'd look great with black skinnies. Hmm

penguinplease · 21/09/2014 08:32

I agree that it sounds like a lovely outfit, is it a new style for you? Maybe you just felt different?
By the way, the blouse sounds nice, can you link a pic??

Twinklestein · 21/09/2014 08:35

I think it depends on the shape of the blouse. I find the ones that work best are slimfitting, the looser ones are harder to wear imo.

rockpink · 21/09/2014 08:37

This was it. ..

Yes it is very very loose fitting!
That's probably what is making it feel all wrong.

(I had tan leather knee boots with a block heel on too)

It does look quite big, like a tunic. Have you tried wearing it just with leggings?

Otherwise you could shorten to wear with jeans.

rockpink · 21/09/2014 09:07

Ah thanks, I'll hunt out leggings and see!!

Yours isn't a blouse. It's a tunic

yazzy85 · 21/09/2014 09:14

Might be better without the knee high boots as the top is already quite long, trybit with ballet flats or ankle boots...

rockpink · 21/09/2014 09:15

is this a tunic too? love it!

yazzy85 · 21/09/2014 09:15

*try it

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/09/2014 09:16

The problem with untucked ones is seeing the colour change where the vest ends and the jeans start, can it be worn tucked in? Or maybe get a longer line vest and wear that untucked too. Flesh colour vests can look better than white under white sheer tops too, depends whether you want to be able to see the vest or just need it to conceal your bra.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/09/2014 09:18

Agree about the boots too, if they were black to match the jeans it would not cut your legs into such short sections visually.

rockpink · 21/09/2014 09:25

I bought it to conceal my tummy mainly! But I think I may have unfortunately highlighted it wearing that tunic.
Ah, we live & learn! :)

Longer vest would be better, and yes in a flesh colour ideally.

I try not to conceal my legs (which are the best feature out of a bad lot) but I'm not sure what to wear now I've hit 40!

ememem84 · 21/09/2014 11:41

That's so pretty!! I'd stick to skinny jeans personally and heels.

MissBeehiving · 21/09/2014 13:12

I'd dump the knee boots too with a longer length top

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/09/2014 13:54

I like the tunic (and I LOVE that butterfly one. Butterflies are gorgeous on clothes, that one looks like proper pencil sketch drawings rather than 'shapes' )

I'd wear with black skinny jeans, black boots and a black vest - then the tunic as a contrast-but-has-black to accent.

everythingsgoingsouth · 21/09/2014 16:10

I did this!
the solution is the "half-tuck", need a belt, and you just tuck in the section at the front where the belt buckle is. it still disguises a tum, in fact it makes it look flatter:)
think you could google the half tuck and see.

rockpink · 21/09/2014 16:16

Half tuck! Ok I'll have a look! :)

OP posts:
rockpink · 21/09/2014 16:22

Half tucks as in just tucked in over top of belt?
Or one half tucked in only on one side?

Oh Shock the "Half Tuck" makes them look like they've tucked their tops into their knickers when they went to the loo.
I'd be thinking sort yourself out like when you see teen boys with their waistbands round their bum cheeks.

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:50

It's a bit long more like a tunic I would have to tuck that in or would look a bit maternity on me Can you take it back?

rockpink · 21/09/2014 17:49

Haha no it was an eBay purchase!
Gonna try it tomorrow with v long black vest under, flat black leather boots and the skinny jeans again.
This old git needs to dress up a bit now.
