Help me to find an elegant dress

I'm going to a dinner soon, it's in an extremely high end place with an equally high end guest list, and I need something to wear. Invitation specifies not black tie. I want to look elegant, but at size 18/20, 5'7, with a huge stomach and lardy arms, I'm struggling to find a suitable dress - please help, oh stylish ones!

I would like a dress with at least elbow length sleeves, or with a lovely cover up - not something that is obviously there to hide my fat arms IYSWIM! Length could be knee length downwards, I think I'd prefer midi to maxi length. I want to look classy and elegant most of all. I can do good hair and make up, shoes and jewellery, but I'm struggling for a frock, ideally one I can buy online.

I'd be happy to spend up to £300 for something wonderful that I can wear to death. Colour - I'm thinking black, dark navy, dark green, etc. I have a lovely duchesse satin dress, but it creases and wrinkles terribly, so I don't want to make that mistake again.

This might be lovely or foul (need to see in the flesh]]

FamiliesShareGerms · 18/09/2014 20:34

Slinky?

FamiliesShareGerms · 18/09/2014 20:35

Elegant?

DorrieNoGoblin · 18/09/2014 20:39

stunning, long sleeved, velvet LBD. Ignore the maker.

Karbea · 18/09/2014 20:44

Hello,

Would this work?

tethersend · 18/09/2014 20:45

That comes in a maxi version too, Dorrie (although over budget)

tethersend · 18/09/2014 20:47

green

WarriorOne · 18/09/2014 20:49

Thanks for those suggestions. I like the style of the velvet LBD, but I'm not keen on velvet - I'm worried I'll be too hot! Some of those Eliza J ones are quite nice too. Any more? Smile
