Do people really dress up for the school run?

Just heard a few comments lately, that seems to indicate that people plan their outfits for the school run

Now I love fashion and clothes, have a degree in fashion, have worked in the industry....but have never ever even considered wearing anything special for the school run. I just get up, drag on some jeans and rush out. And it appears all the other mums at my school do this. Apart from one who is always made up to the nines, and wearing ott stuff, but she may have just come from work. I just can't get my head round this. Does it really happen?

I usually take off my pyjamas and put on a track suit our jeans - does that count?

My friend referred to a school run jacket, but she's terribly glam

I wear a monocle and carry a silver topped cane, anything less is a bit slovenly.

Don't forget the spats too. They should always coordinate with ones monocle and silver topped cane!

I dress for the school run, but no. I don't dress up. At all.

and my hair is usually still wet from showering. It actually froze stiff one cold winter morning.

Oh I doff my trilby at the spats, that is school run style.

I imagine most people just dress for their life and part of that may include the school run.

Well i choose my outfit the night before, same for my dd's (although dd1 wears a uniform mon to fri). I do this regardless of whether I'm actually on the school run or not. I could never just wake up, shower and grab some clothes. Ive always been like this!

No, I've overhead 2 or 3 conversations in shops. People saying that they like to look done up for the school run. E.g 'Do you think these boots would look ok with this dress when I'm doing the school run?'

I have made a recent pact with myself to always wash/straighten my hair (I always just tied it up for the school run but an over-zealous hairdresser has meant it only works if straightened), put on lip gloss and try to look half-decent for the school run/popping to shops etc.

I didn't care a huge amount before, just dressed for weather and my post-pregnancy figure, but in the last 6 months my marriage has broken down following my DH's infidelity, so my self-esteem has taken a knock. It's very shallow but I feel much happier and more confident if I'm not feeling my hair is a mess/I look a mess. I don't put in make up but do consider what I wear a bit more.

I think I was probably in need of more help than most though-I was wearing breastfeeding bras until a few weeks ago-I stopped bf my DD over 18 months ago!

Too right I did. I worked part time and only dropped off two mornings a week. As soon as DDs bell went I was off to town window shopping, lunch with friends cafe culture don't you know.

Actually I did this approximately twice and felt a right tit at the school gate surrounded by fleeces, jeans and scrunchies.

In fact i'll go a step further. I check the weather forecast for the next day before choosing my next day outfit.

I did the school run on the way to a dog walk so wellies, old jackets and old jeans, often with holes in.

Same as about a third of mums dropping off.

Yes I dress up if it's cold I wear my coat.If its warm I wear my sunglasses.No I don t dress up However for years I worked nights and used to have to drag myself out of bed to get the children so was grey shaking poorly dressed and knackered looking.I don t work nights anymore so in comparison to the fat junkie look I had I now wear work clothes must look glam in comparrison I guess it's perspective.

I don't, and I hardly notice what other people are wearing. I assume the people who are looking noticeably smart and have makeup on are on their way to work!

Nope. I don't go naked just grab clothes. But usually I'm going to work and will look smart as a result.

Mine are older, so no school runs now, but when my ds started school and dd was at nursery I wasn't the most organised person in the morning. I was done up if a comb had gone anywhere near my hair tbh.
Then later same as Bowlersarm - dog walking gear and wellingtons.

I've never met anyone who get dressed especially for the school run.

At DD's primary parents dressed in different attires at school run time: suits and smarter clothes when working, gym clothes, horse riding gear, cycling stuff, jeans and tops for casual days, etc. Never saw anyone in PJs though I have to say.

Massive mix at school I work at two. Though no idea what there plans for the day are - do people really do it??

At our infant school they do. One I used to be friends with gets up at 6am to make sure she has time to get ready!

No way, lucky if I've brushed my hair! Although I usually do put on a bit of blusher as well as pulling on any clothes that I get to first. It seems bizarre to me to get dressed up for dropping your child off at school unless you are going somewhere particularly nice straight afterwards.

Our school gate is generally divided into those dressed for work, those dressed for some form of exercise, the remainder tend to wear jeans in winter and dresses in summer. I don't think there is anyone who looks like they just fell out of bed but there's no one who looks like they they put vast amounts of effort in either.

There are days when I might actually put clean clothes on :o

I've only just started the school run, but I suppose I do "dress up" inasmuch as I shower, dry my hair, and have an outfit I look semi-decent in. But then, I do that whenever I go anywhere because I'm overweight and I always feel that I have to make an effort to look okay, can't just shove anything on and hope for the best.
