so if I'm too old/fat for skinny jeans what do I wear under a long jumpet/dress?

Title says it really. I'm a size 14 and 38, so much as I'd love to think I probably shouldn't wear skinny jeans. I love the new jumper dresses and would love to wear one over jeans, but what do you think? All mine are gap long and lean, but quite like the idea of buying a new pair of high waist ones - to hide tummy in. So what sort of leg do I go for. Or, should I just forget the whole thing. Think the age/size issue is the same for leggings too.

me too (well nearly 37) i wear skinny jeans etc it's up to you! leggins with dresses only look if (imo!) if they're really long and worn with long dresses.

Thomcat · 25/09/2006 11:33

Size 14 isn't too large and 38 isn't too old.
Seriously.
Think it'll be a fab look and you should go for it.
Better jeans than leggings.
Team them with a bit of a heel and even better.
You have my full approval

long leggings will be ok or foorless tights
short calf length leggings will make you look even heavier tbh
go for a dark color and deffo no stripes

Hi GoW - I'm a size 14 and 42 and bought a pair of Gap skinny black trousers to wear under tunic dresses. This seems to have solved the proportions problem and looks fine (I ask DH who has a good eye and I've already taken 5 pairs back to the shops before finding the solution). I think I'm way too old for leggings and can't quite bring myself to wear skinny jeans.

Glassofwine · 25/09/2006 11:36

ok, so if footless long leggings are ok, then what about shoes? Are you really sure about the skinny jeans? I am quite tall, so could perhaps get away with black ones, with long jumper - I hope, just don't want to be muttony

I'm going to get ankle boots to go with my black trousers.
Flats seem to look best with leggings - ballet style

desperateSCOUSEwife · 25/09/2006 11:40

experiment with flat, boots and heels
and see what look is right for you

I wear skinny jeans under mine
either long or calf length

I am older than 38 btw
and a 8-10 in jeans

I would deffo go for jeans rather than leggings.

I have just bought a pair of dark grey skinny jeans from Asda. They are really comfy and just the right length for me (5'4 and short in the leg) although they do have a long length also. And only £16. They are for wearing with the long jumper/dress scenario.
