What to wear with boyfriend jeans in autumn/winter?

Have recently found myself more interested in S&B after several years of, well, just not being there. I am by no means uber-fashionable, but like to think I can at least keep myself away from the total frump side of the scale.

Have weaned myself of boot-cut jeans. Am avoiding skinnies (have calves and they just look wrong) but am doing slim cut. And loving Boyfriend jeans.

However moving into cooler/colder weather I realise I have no idea what to wear with the boyfriends once the sunshine goes. Birkenstocks/converse not really great for wet and cold school runs. My slim jeans are no problem - have various boots to wear over them. But what do I do with the boyfriends? I really do not want to have to hide them away til next spring. I cannot do heels (main image I get if I google for ideas). Please help!

Mmm tricky. You really need a bare ankle with bf jeans. Not so good in the cold. Maybe brogues and keep the top half quite tight? What about straight legs instead of skinny. Not helpful I know Smile

Bumping... I need to work this one out too, but bare ankles in winter? Shivering at the thought of it.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/09/2014 14:37

Sorry girls but you need to suffer for style. Personally I only wear them with high heels as I think you need the rest quite dressy.

HundHaus · 12/09/2014 14:50

I've been thinking about this recently, and seeing this thread prompted me to go and have a look at Pinterest.

There are quite a few photos of women wearing ankle boots (either ones narrow enough to go under the jeans, or ones that finish in the same place as the jeans) with boyfriend jeans and it looks really good, so definitely no need for bare ankles! Smile

mirpuppet · 12/09/2014 14:58

I agree -- you can do high heels or ankle boots.

But for some reason BF jeans seem like a spring/ summer look to me. Must be the light wash I have.

Pandsbear · 12/09/2014 15:04

I wear flat pumps/trainers/DM shoes etc but they all need to have a solid sole (nothing thin and flimsy otherwise they look a bit odd). I don't wear heels with them as the jeans would have the wrong leg length. I have a pair of Zara bf jeans that are a lot narrower at the hem and I suppose I could wear a heel with them... ponders...

cressetmama · 12/09/2014 15:25

Note to self... schedule trying on session in front of long mirror on the next wet day. My BF jeans have hardly been off since I bought them, but they may have to retire to a hangar at the summer end of the wardrobe until spring if I can't find satisfactory shoes. Wellies won't do will they?

I wear Hudson ankle boots with mine they are quite chunky and add a fitted sweater to balance things out. I have Zara boyfriend jeans and like them.

Hmmm...was thinking of getting these to go with my skinnier jeans...would they work with boyfriends? www.hm.com/gb/product/33328?article=33328-A#article=33328-B

I might wear mine with stack heeled shoe-boot type things, I've got some taupe suede ones. I agree, though, it's a problem. I wore loafers with them in summer. Skinnies were so easy to wear with boots.

Twinklestein · 12/09/2014 21:38

Last year I wore them with slim-fitting heeled ankle boots and shoe boots. Worked very well.

Houseofmaidens · 12/09/2014 22:45

I like them scrunched up over slouchy boots. Uggs actually I think if you keep the waist tight and the top tight, tight knit and leather biker FE, the slouch looks kind of insouciant chic, But then. I like pyjama fashion Wink

cerealqueen · 12/09/2014 23:16

Would clogs work?

MyFirstName · 13/09/2014 09:16

This is clearly trickier than I thought! Maybe I should just get some animal print slip on sneakers and prowl through a/w?

I wear rocket dog pumps with mine, I will find it hard when it gets colder though as I prefer a warm boot and they don't really go with bf fit jeans.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 13/09/2014 09:21

Another one here who puts them with uggs!

ememem84 · 13/09/2014 09:32

I just wear with socks/feet in winter. They're my indoors jeans.

hettie · 13/09/2014 09:50

Nike air's?

Sleepwhenidie · 13/09/2014 09:54

I've been pondering this too. I saw this blog yesterday and thought the boots looked nice, not a style I would have tried if I hadn't seen it.

Sleepwhenidie · 13/09/2014 09:58

myfirstname I think those boots are about an inch or so too high, you won't get a gap between bottom of jeans and top of boot, think you need something no higher than mid-ankle....

Sleepwhenidie · 13/09/2014 09:59

Skater shoes could also work...not so good in the rain though!

LisaMWill · 13/09/2014 10:17

Agreed with houseofmaidens - scrunched up with my ugg boots with a 'slim' fitting top. Pj chic all the way for me Smile

HundHaus · 13/09/2014 10:39

CerealQueen, I have some Birkenstock Boston clog things. I've just tried them on with my boyfriend jeans and they looked quite good. Slouchy, tweedy looking socks worked best.

MyFirstName · 13/09/2014 11:41

I think you are right about the H&M boots being a bit high (currently got them in black and grey sitting in the delivery box upstairs and trying to decide whether to keep them).

When I try them on with skinnies they are OK (the boots), but just don't quite cut it with the boyfriend. Especially as I am shortish - so to get the jeans short enough cuts my legs up to silly proportions.

Any thoughts on desert boots with boyfriends?

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 13/09/2014 12:10

I think the desert boots would look nice, similar to the Chelsea boots I linked to on the blog. I just tried my skinny bf's on with pistols which come just above the ankle and they looked ridiculous, my legs looked incredibly stumpy because of the tiny gap between boots and jeans...
