Would you wear this skirt - and what with?

Quite attracted by this skirt but I am size 16 hourglass and not sure if it would make me look too large. Also what kind of top, and indeed shoes, would you wear with it? I don't normally wear skirts - dresses are so much easier - so I don't have a great range of tops to choose from but I thought it was time I broadened my clothing horizons beyond the dress!

I'm a similar size and also an hourglass and wear skirts in that style. I keep the tops simple and fitted as loose tops with a full skirt make me look much larger and shapeless. I usually wear a vest top or simple tee tucked into the waist band with a fitted cardigan. keeps the top unfussy and shows off my waist

Wrap tops with a waist work well with full skirt, I find. This sort of shape (linked a print to make it easier to see how it's constructed). This one seems to have some ruching on the waist part which is not so handy if your a tuck-it-in type, but you get the idea.

tethersend · 12/09/2014 14:01

I'd wear it with a polo neck, long pendant necklace, opaques and shoes like this

MissMillament · 12/09/2014 14:08

Some great ideas, thanks OneLittle, I think DP have a fitted cardi in the same colour - or would that be too matchy. I love that wrap top, Mrs Lettuce. Tethers those shoes are amazing but I have ankle problems which mean I can't wear heels higher than 3-4 cm which is a bit limiting. Quite like these from New Look, but would they work with the skirt?

I'd wear it with opaques, heeled ankle boots, a black top tucked in and a biker jacket.

Sootgremlin · 12/09/2014 17:08

I would wear it the same as onelittlelady said, however I have a similar issue with heels, so have tended to avoid midi skirts for that reason as don't know whether flats work or not.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 12/09/2014 18:49

I have that skirt and wore it yesterday in almost the exact way that Remus suggested. Black T tucked in, opaques and ankle boots.

MissMillament · 12/09/2014 20:23

I have ordered the skirt! Will try to style it up when it arrives and see what works. I like the idea of ankleboots - I only have biker-style boots atm, what are yours like Adorabelle? Any suggestions Remus, bearing in mind my ankles collapse at the slightest provocation so too much heel is a problem Sad

Sorry - I meant Adorabeezle - great name.

Quite like the look of these but haven't seen them irl to know what the wrappy bit looks like, and although I suspect most people on here would think they are 'mum boots' (which I honestly wouldn't give a flying fig about tbh).

Love these but they are expensive.

pinkfrocks · 13/09/2014 15:10

I am not keen- sorry.

Think it's in danger of making you look wide and possibly frumpy.

I think a fitted pencil skirt would be more flattering, but that's just my opinion.

MissMillament · 14/09/2014 13:20

I have ordered it now Pinkfrocks so fingers crossed you are wrong! Though I suspect you may be right!
I also ordered this dress for work - better for my shape do you think? Total bargain anyway so I hope so!

Love those second pair of boots you linked to Remus, but they are expensive!
Adorabeezle - those wedge Mary Janes are fab - how high are they? Are they comfy - I don't get to sit down much at work and need shoes that I can cope with being on my feet all day in.
What do you think of these shoes?
