I sometimes know I look ok or scruffy.
But I rarely think I l

I dont think you "know" persey, more the "feeling" you get.

Karbea · 10/09/2014 14:28

Look good and definitely never stylish.

Just wondered how you know?

Even when I look at the fashion bloggers I tend to think they look ok, but rarely great or particularly stylish:/

However I do think some celebs do...

How do you gauge if your do look stylish/good?

I think I know what works and what doesn't for me,and that is the number one rule to looking and feeling good.

Wearing a stylish dress, that is not you won't do any favors, even if it fits like a glove.

Its all about finding your style.

Karbea · 10/09/2014 19:09

But how do you do that? I'm 40 nearly 41 and feel like I should know.

One just lives in hope!

There's a thread in AIBU at the mo asking how does someone look "well groomed" and many of the suggestions being offered would qualify as looking frumpy according to current thread in S&B!

minkah · 10/09/2014 19:30

What is 'stylish' is sooo subjective and relative, isn't it.

I might think I look stylish and you think I look frumpy!

For me getting my colours done was a massive help as I KNOW the colours I'm wearing look good on me and flatter my colouring. Was well worth it! And they were not colours u would probably be wearing if I hadn't.

Redcoats · 10/09/2014 21:02

Do you ever get complimented on an outfit? That's when I know I look good. Sadly doesn't happen that often.

minkah · 10/09/2014 22:40

Oh, yes! Kate Moss style. True that she is irrefutably stylish.

Could it be that being beautiful, rich and very slender means that everything she wears looks good?

Not to mention that all her clothes are designer stuff?

Ordinary people may not look stylish in her outfits, could be possible to look ott or meh, in fact, in what she wears, depending on personal shape/size etc

Petal02 · 10/09/2014 22:44

I always felt ok-ish but never quite right, and I couldn't put my finger on the problem. Then I had my long, straight, heavy hair cut short in June - BINGO! Then everything clicked into place. Quite strange really.

Mrsgrumble · 10/09/2014 22:46

I don't think I look good, well I know I don't at the moment but I think when I have a good colour and cut it helps. Make up done but not overdone.

Good quality clothes had a lot to do with it I think. Now I am a fan of the odd tesco bargain but feel stylish if I wear a cape from jigsaw or dress from Hobbs. They suit my figure and last well.

Mrsgrumble · 10/09/2014 22:47

Also getting to my optimum weight makes me feel more stylish. Proper fitting bra and fitted coat or blazer.

heartshapedflux · 10/09/2014 22:51

I'm not beautiful, rich or slender, but I know I look stylish - friends and strangers often tell me so.

I've got an eye for what colours and shapes suit be best, while styles complement my personality and what I can get away with for my age.

I don't follow trends for the sake of them and I'm not afriad of wearing bold colours.

heartshapedflux · 10/09/2014 22:54

And yes I agree - good quality clothes have a lot to do with it.

My skinny friends can get away with wearing Primark and still looking amazing. At a size 14 with large boobs, I look hideous.

amigababy · 10/09/2014 23:04

It rarely happens to me but just occasionally I try something on and I Smile.. At that point,I know. And I buy it. Last item was a Tu dress, So nothing fancy. But I knew instantly that I was happy with it. Confirmed by the eyes widening of my boss (18 years younger than me) when I got changed at work to go to a party in it. Smile Happy days!

minkah · 10/09/2014 23:07

Heartshapedflux, strangers tell you that you look stylish? How nice!

heartshapedflux · 10/09/2014 23:12

Yes, I was actually told so by a lovely older lady on the escalator in John Lewis today. My dress was only M&S autograph, but the cut was just right for me and I felt really good in it.

minkah · 10/09/2014 23:15

Heartwarming when people are vocal in their appreciation! You must have looked smashing!

cressetmama · 11/09/2014 09:10

It is a great pleasure to tell anyone, but especially a stranger, that they look fab. Their eyes light up and they step out with pride! Make it a habit to say nice things; nobody is ever offended!!

Karbea · 11/09/2014 16:37

Umm, but sometimes I buy something, think I look great in it, then, Later see pictures of me, and think I look horrible.
