Going to a wedding on Saturday - please help me find a dress!

I'm 5'3'', a size 16-18 and have a recently acquired confidence so will wear whatever I like! I find that 50s style things suit me best - v neck or shirt style neck, waist in a bit and flared skirt on the knee. I would normally say my arms need to be covered but I no longer have these hang ups! Wedding is funky rather than very formal. Would like something easy to wear that fits!

I really like this - what do people think?

The budget is up to £150 - I have black shoes that I love and are really comfortable. Heeled, patent and leather, tiny strap, moderately round toe. I could do shoes too if needed though. I have short blond curly hair (and 8 silver rings in my ears...). I don't do handbags. Or make up Blush

OP, I think the Next dress you've linked to is lovely.

Lovely dress - perfect for a wedding.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 10/09/2014 12:51

Thank you. Think I will go and try it on. Lots I liked on both those other websites - we have another wedding which is a bit dressier at the end of the month. Might have to get two...

OP, please give me some confidence tips!!

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 10/09/2014 15:41

I read Beyond Chocolate and stopped think about food, dieting etc. and dressed in clothes that fitted and stopped waiting until I was thin to do things - i went up a climbing wall in front of people the other day! I no longer weigh myself and base how I feel on a number. I have started to apply some of the principles from the book and have been eating EXACTLY WHAT I WANT. It's been extremely liberating and I have noticed that I look slimmer to myself in the mirror. Weird, huh? I decided that life was too short to be worrying about what I looked like all the time.

Thank you, I'll look up that book! I'm feeling better already Smile.

I also stopped buying cheap crap clothes from supermarkets.

I've seen a dress that I love linked on another thread this what do you think?

I really like that dress, length says 85cm but the model is bound to be tall and it looks knee length on her so that is a bit confusing. I'd really try it, very dramatic and lovely for autumn.

Would work for both weddings too! Going to try it tomorrow and the next one. If neither any good will go to John Lewis.

I ended up getting something completely different This it is ridiculously comfortable, flattering and looks well smart enough for at least the first wedding and probably both. And the ruched stomach is ideal for filling with champagne nd nice food. It also goes with my fave heels and my gold flats.

That is very nice, job done OP!

hellsbellsmelons · 11/09/2014 10:02

That's really nice.
And very practical.
Dress it up or down. You'll get a lot of wear out of it.
Enjoy!

Wedding was fabulous, loads of compliments, felt very confident. Dress was really easy to wear, very flattering and will be worn again for the next wedding!

Excellent Grin, so glad it went well.

I ordered the book you recommended, it has arrived but haven't had a chance to read it yet.
